I guess you could call it laziness, but a while ago I didnt Hook my strap to the rubrail, just rolled them up the easy way

I didnt relize that the rear winch on the rear ,slid right over my trailer tire..I had to dump my air, so I could make a real tight turn, and when I did, the winch put a 2 inch gash right in the middle of the tire, all the way around.....That was a 300 dollar lesson learned.. :vmad:

Lets here some of the things you have done, to earn you the dummy of the week award..

I was running empty over to Plano, TX from about 15 minuts east of there. I had just dropped a load and didn't want to roll-up my straps so I just hooked them on the rubrail on the other side of the deck from the ratchets. I rolled up the excess strap and put it between the strap and the edge of the deck and ratcheted down the straps. Well, I had a strap come loose and the 20 feet of excess strap came unrolled and was trailing along side the trailer. Mind you, it was really dark out and I couldn't see it in my mirrors. Anyway, the strap went under my trailer tires and I buzzed the strap which made the trailer on that side jump up about 18 inches off the road bed!! It really jerked my truck hard too! I immediately pulled over and fixed the problem but it cost me a strap and a trip to the bathroom!.

Been there....done that. We all make the same mistakes, but the best of us learn from them. $300 is a very costly lesson. But if the same $300 doesn't even give you any knowledge for future reference, it's that much more of a waste.

It is always good to learn from your mistakes, but better and cheaper to learn from someone else's.

I myself keep the frist and last sliding winch where they belong with a spare bungee strap, whether loaded or empty.

I do the same thing Jimbo. I learned by watching others. In fact, that's how I learned everything I know about skateboards. I had no trainer, just the willingness to learn. So the company ran me with another driver for a week and I gathered enought to try it on my own. I reckon I did pretty good.
