I have a young cousin, 22, who has been employeed at Ford in Louisville for the past three years.

As many know Ford is cutting back, WAY back. Jason has been given an offer to take four years worth of funding for further education in another field or take payout for service and unemployment til it runs out.

He knows what I do and what I make but I have also explained to him it has taken 18 years, 1.5 union the rest non, to get what I have, it didn't come in 2-4-10 years.

Question is this, as a UAW member should he put his education money towards a driving school and go to Holland/ ABF / Yellow / Roadway/ Alvan and hope to get hired or go to "mill" company then try working his way in.

If it were the old days, I'd help train him but company regs say no way Jose'.

He wants to stay Union, just wants to drive now since his "gravy" is being taken away. I just thought I'd throw it out to you union fellars to see what your thoughts are.

He should lok at either working his way up at U.P.S. (they promote from within for feeder truck drivers), or at ABF.
