One place I cannot STAND, MDV Nash/Finch, Norfolk, Virginia.
10 miles from the house and they're the slowest, stupidist and most ignorant bunch on planet earth.I'd stay out an extra week to avoid delivering there.

Any place I go into that has a sign posted that says:

THIS IS A DRIVER UNLOAD FACILITY

Any way you cut it you will be unloading something. Either the freight or a large amount of money.

I gotta agree with ya UT. If it involves me doing manual labor, they better get MY PERMISSION BEFORE they accept the load for me.

If I don't agree to it before accepting the load, it ain't happening. :D

A friend of mine, delivered a load last Monday in Memphis, TN. When he got there, the receiver told him to back up to the dock and he'd bring him a pallet jack, so he could pull the freight off the trailer. He then told Mike that they were not allowed to drive onto his trailer with their equipment, so the driver has to bring it to the rear of the trailer.

Mike called the agent that he booked the load through and it was a surprise to him, too. He asked Mike how much it would cost for Mike to pull it off and Mike said he was thinking $ 200. The agent said no way, He was thinking twice that much. The agent then called the broker, who just happened to be another trucking company and told them what was going on. They agreed to the $ 400 without batting an eye. :yikes: :yikes: :yikes:

So, Mike wants another load back there as soon as he can. He likes easy money. The whole load weighed around 8,000 lbs, including pallet weight. The money was on his Comdata card before he even started the unload. Now that's how business is supposed to be done. :D :D :D

Some people have ALL THE LUCK!

I had to deliver to Albertson's in Brea, Ca. a few months back, the lumpers wanted $75.00 to just pull it off-I told them to take a hike, i'd do it myself.

The receiver asked if I was hiring and I told him "nope" to shich he started telling me, Well, I want them lined up here with 1ft between each pallet and a 2ft walkway between them.
I asked if he'd like some shrubbery or potted plants on the corners and he said, "are you getting smart with me"
To which I replied, "no more than you're being condicending towards me.."

When it was all done, I asked him to sign the bills "Driver Unload" and he said, "We're not allowed to do that"
I told him, "Oh, I didn't hire the lumper, you don't get your kickback so now you're busting my chops, huh?"

This guy went off, "WE'RE NOT ALLOWED, WE DON'T GET ANYTHING FROM THE LUMPERS, yadda, yadda, yadda."

I took the bills, pulled out my own "Driver Unload" stamp I had purchased from Office Depot, stamped the bills myself and told him to have a nice day.

As it happens, I got $110.00 from Crete to unload that puppy

All that money changing hands on the dock and the receiving clerk isn't seeing any of the action?
Oh, PA-Leeeeeeeeze!

Holy crap, that guy got 400 bucks just to pull off skids with a pallet jack?
What a deal. I unload a 53 ft trailer myself everyday too, we use a electric pallet jack, but were on hourly pay, but even we don't make that much!

I think lumpers must make a tonne of money. If there was somewhere around here that i could work, i would screw truck driving and go be a lumper.

I don't mind pulling pallets off of a trailer & putting them on the dock, but I refuse to do it for anything less than $150 a full load. I don't do "breakdowns" either.

One of our drivers was delivering a load of Shasta soda to a Grocery Store here in San Antonio a month ago, and the dock manager must have had him confused with the Coca Cola or Pepsi delivery guys.
The dock manager told him "You're a vendor! You're supposed to put it on the shelf in the store!". Our driver then called our Dispatcher, who then called the Dock Manager and got that straightened out.

This has been a "driver tailgate" load for as long as I can remember. I don't mind doing them, as long as I get to use an electric pallet jack!

It doesn't take much for me to hate a place..... all they gotta have is a sign that says "Grocery Warehouse". I never want to back up to the dock of one again in my life!
