This year at the 2nd International Highway Interdependence Day Celebration on September 10th, we are going to have a People's Choice Truck Competition where the public will vote on its favorite trucks in several categories: The Adult Division will include “The Nicest Interior,” “The Best Paint Job,” “The Nicest Chrome Job”, and the “Best All-Round Rigged Rig”. The Youth Division will give the “Coolest Truck Award, winner and runner-up.

We are doing this as a way for the public to begin developing a new appreciation for trucks and truck drivers. It’s impossible to feel two incompatible responses at the same time. Therefore, if the public is paying more attention to the attractiveness and nuances of the different trucks on the highway, they won’t be feeling anger towards them.

And, of course, the children are picking their favorites anyway. Last year we heard them keep asking each which truck was their favorite truck.

The competition’s entry fee is $15.00, and proceeds go toward paying the expenses of the Celebration. Prizes include certificates, ribbons, pictures and the pleasure of knowing that you are making a difference. You may register on-line at www.highwayinterdependenceday.com or by calling me 570-341-5712.

I think it would be good if the owners of the trucks could include pictures of how their trucks looked before the customization. Everyone loves before and after pictures, and it becomes another tool for learning appreciation of the work that people put into their trucks.

The Highway Interdepence Day is held at the Lackawanna County Stadium, I-81, Exit 182 (Scranton, PA area) from 10-3.

Please help us spread the word about the event and the competition. This is basically a big party that truck drivers throw for the public to reduce stereotypes and increase understanding and safety. Last year's celebration was a joy-filled day for all the participants, and this year is going to be even bigger and better.
