Anybody know a good place to buy sliding ratchets and 4" nylon straps cheap? I need to buy a dozen of each. Truck Pro here in Tulsa will sell a set for under $40, but I don't know if there is anyplace online that might be cheaper.

I never had to by ratchets before, so I dont know the prices on those, but 4 inch straps, you might be able to find for a bout 15 bucks a piece, if you do some digging..

Here ya go Preacher. I've picked up at this place before. The stuff they sell on site is about 1/2 of what it costs in stores.

Last time I was there I picked up 4 of these for about $50.

Since you don't live too far from Dallas, I think it'd be worth your time and expense to drive down and buy directly from them. Especially if you're gonna buy a bunch of stuff.

My freightliner dealer in Salina Ks sells 4" straps for about $7 bucks a piece. straps only. less if you buy a case. 10 to a case. These are with the flat hook. not the bent rod style.( not sure how to describe it) I can't use the bent rod style because they will not go between the rub rail and the bed.

As for sliding ratchets. Do you mean portable ones.? or are you installing them on a trailer?
You might try landstar web site and go to LLCAP then to for sale. Lots of good used stuff there and some new.

Thanks nitestar. I'm looking for a dozen of the 4" flat hook type. I'm also looking for portable bolt-down ratchets that can hold 30' of strap rolled-up.

Hey foxie! Yea, they cut the price about $5 a set for buying a dozen. Now I'm good to go! Now I just need some lightweight tarps with a 6' drop. I'll get them in a coouple of weeks. Got a good tarp shop here that sells used, or can make me a 22' long steel tarp with end flap and 2 rows of D-rings for around $175ea.

Not a bad price at all! Remember tho' it might be a good idea to have one 8'drop lumber tarp on hand. Those things will cover anything.

TN Driver, told me about some super light weight tarps, I think he said they were made out of Parachute material...cant remember exactly.

Preacher, You might want to consider getting 25 foot long, by 16 foot wide tarps. That way, if you ever need to tarp a high, short load, you can turn the tarps sideways to make the long drop. With 2 of these tarps, plus one used one, you could cover a full 48 foot load. It's always good to have a couple smoke tarps on hand too.

I was looking at getting 2 light weight 22' x 24' with 3 rows of D-rings. Smoke tarps are also on my list since I'll be hauling plastic pipe occaisionally.

Preacher, this is gonna sound kinda cheap, but when I had to haul that plastic, slippery, pipe, I would stop by WalMart or even a Dollar store and get one of those blue tarps they sell there. It will cover the front ot the load and if it gets torn you are only out a couple of bucks. They are real handy for all kinds of things. I used one to get under my truck to check out a leak problem one time. No sense getting any dirtier than I was already gonna get.

Consider 3 tarps, have them all made 17'x24', have them stitched so that they can be used length ways or cross ways. Also, have the flaps made seperately, 9'x9' is great. Have the 4 sides of the tarps and the tops of the flaps made with velcro so when you need the flap you can slap it on and it will stick.
I've had mine over 5 years, don't regret doing it that way as they are lighter to throw areound, you can tarp skidded freight or full loads of lumber.
