As owner/operators what would be your top ten concerns owning a truck.....fuel insurance maintenance cost etc. My daughter is doing a school project on o/o's and this info would help a lot. I would like to get at least 10 different people to answer if possible. No names will be used just your top 10. Thanks in advance :type: :type: :)

From most to least:
1. Getting hit by another truck
2. Getting hit by a car
3. Sudden breakdown
4. Needing a tow
5. Vandals
6. Thieves
7. Cargo damage
That's about all I can come up with right now. Fuel, ins., maintenance, truck replacement, etc. don't concern me too much as those are costs of doing business.
I can only come up with 6.I figure most other worries I'd have regardless of what career path I took.
These are not in any particular order. The top concern changes constantly.
1)finding decent paying,steady work
2)unexpected major repairs.I try and keep my old 89 IHC in good condition with a
solid PM program.I try and project what repairs will be needed in the next year or
so and budget for them BUT sometimes two major repairs can kill you.
3)Keeping current with DOT regulations & changes
4)Insurance-while I am covered under my wifes work plan I am still concerned should
she lose her job for any reason
5)My health & the concern of having a major illness put me out of work.
6)Being involved in a major accident
Come on people.Let's help newbears kid out. There's enough O/O & former O/O that can answer this question. No ones asking what you made last year or what your bank account is.

1.Finding a company to lease onto that pays decent and doesn't
try to rip you off
2. Fuel prices
3. Repairs, Finding good mechanics that know what
there doing. A major repair can set you in the poor house.
4.Keeping up with DOT regs and all permits needed for each state
5.Insurance for the equipment and health for my self.
6. Illness. I got Type 2 diabetites 2 years ago and it has changed my
life. Certain types of illness you can't operate a CMV
7.Major accident
8.Finding s a decent truckstop with clean showers and decent food
and is safe
9. Theft and vandalism
10. Personal safety.
