I have been to two interviews for Con way. The pay is ok. The work is alot.
Just wandering what it is like. Seems like a good place, but they are not union. They pay good, so no union may be needed.

If I'm not mistaken, isn't Con-Way the non union side of what was once Consolidated Freightlines (CF)?

Day Trader:
I am a Recruiter with Con-Way NOW, which is part of the Con-Way family, yes we are non-union. We have a real good reputation for keeping our tractors running. We have an excellant settlement package with fuel surcharges.
We have good mileage loads and if one is ready to work then you will fit right in. Be prepared, you must have a CDL A with a HazMat endorcement. We run all 48 states and Canada.
You can get your Base Plates and Non-Trucking Liability with us, for a charge, and we will furnish all operating authorities and interstate premits.
Give me a call and we can discuss it. We have many team operated trucks running between 5 and 6 thousand miles a week. Doesn't sound like much? then call me and I will tell you the mileage rate.
Thanks for the times guys, by the way, the handle of 2millionplus, comes from 30 years on the road.

Was looking at the CCX side.
I want to get my brokerage going again and have been working on it. I may just give it a wait set for a second.
I go to physical, drug test and drive test tomarrow.
Over all looks like a great job with lots or work and starting at the bottom rung on the ladder.
I am just going to wait on the brokerage thing and see if this plays out.
I can not do both work for them and broker.

There are many opportunities here with us. Another one is as an outside carrier (broker) for us. We use many outside carriers to carry the freight that we just cannot commit to. Wheather the freight is just too far from one of our units or going into an area that we cannot get out of.
We also have Con-Way Full Load here, that is our in-house brokerage service. When you get your business going, that also is an avenue that can be explored.
It never hurts to cover all the bases. Let me know if I can help with any obstacles thay may arise.

Everying thing is good. Start in a little over a week.
I am going to put the broker biz on ice again.
This is looking like a great thing to me.
The work IS NOT TRUCK LOAD. Yet that dosn't bother me.
The short time I did LTL with the last carrier was a learning stage.
This looks to be much more work in worse conditions.
Yet, Its cool. I can handle it and smile to the bank. I will get plenty of loading and unloading experiance.

These are great folks. They have there stuff together and have a goal.
I look very much to adding to the team.
The traning they go to is very real. Most carriers would have you done in like a 3 day time. Not these folks they are looking at 2 weeks, and that is after EVERY I is dotted and T is crossed before they call you in.
My self looks like it takes about a month to get into this place. To me it is a good place. I can take the time.
I know, looks like it is a place that wants long term employees. No reason for turn over when they hire folk ready to get the job done.
One that will live for them selves and the company. Over all. From what I have seen I give them a 10 on training and 10 on the folks they retain. That is on a scale of 1-10.
It takes people and very dedicated folks to make a company great. They look very hard for them.

Even companies deserve your kind thoughts when it is deserved. We at Con-Way NOW thank you.
With the cost of keeping your trucks on the road, we know how hard it is on you.
Again, Thank You

I am finding this to be great work. It isn't half as hard as I thought it would be. The LTL company I worked at before was much smaller with a dock only 10% the size of this one.
I enjoy the dock work. I find it to be easier then the driving.

None of the Con-Ways are union. The old CF used to be union, but they have gone by the wayside.

C.F. USED TO BE A UNION COMPANY .BUT THEN IT STARTED THR CON-WAY THING AS A NON UNION SIDE, WITH THE PROMISE THAT IT WILL NEVER HAVE AN AFFECT ON THE UNION SIDE. BUT SLOWLY IT DID,AND ONE DAY THEY DECIDED AT CORPORATE LEVEL TO CLOSE THE DOORS ON C.F. C.F. PAID TO BUILD CON-WAY AND IN THE END THE BIG BOYS DECIDED TO PUT THE SCREWS TO THE UNIONSIDE AND SWITCH IT ALL OVER TO CON-WAY WITH OUT MISSING A BEAT. SO IT WAS IN THE WORKS FOR A LONG TIME.CON-WAY SEEMS TO BE A NICE COMPANY TO LEASE TO BUT I CANT GET THE TASTE OUT OF MY MOUTH. BUT IF YOU DRIVE A CON-WAY COMPANY TRK AND UR INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT,YOU CAN KISS YOUR JOB GOODBYE. A BUDDY OF MINE HAD 19 YRS.WITH C-W AND HAD A LIL OLE FINDER BINDER AND GOT CANNED OVER IT. I HAD 16 YRS WITH C.F. AND C-W WONT HIRE ME, I DONT HAV'NT HAD A TICKET IN 20 YRS. ALSO THEY SAID UNDER THERE BREATH THAT ITS C.F. THATS HOLDING ME BACK.

PHANTONVIPPER: No Tickets and a good MVR, I will hire you in a heart beat. I need drivers and or trucks. We have a new mileage rate, that may interest you, will make it worth your while.
I worked for a Union Bus company for 14 years, one month before he locked us out they asked for concessions. Made terrific money, the next month the other company that bought it out wanted us to work for next to nothing. I know about them.
Call me and I can give you the low down on our new $$$

I stand corrected, very possibly grandfathered in. Even then, one must search hi and lo for a union employee in the Con-Way organization, probably why it runs so smoothly

Bloomington Terminal is not union.
They run a local delivery and switch yard.
The yard is on gravel. Used as a driver meet point to switch line haul loads for St Louis, Salam and Loads going north.

I see Con-Way truck load is taking owner operators now. Anyone know what they are paying?
I went to the web site. Nothing on the owner operators. I called for a little info. No luck.
I am wandering what they are paying. I have talked to 7 owner ops leased to Con-Way truck load. Not one of them would say what they pay. Must be in the contract.

It dose run very smooth. Every employee here knows how the work works. They know the proccess. Nice knowing most all employees here have a CDL. Even that sweet old lady that makes the bills out. She bid that possition.
Over all I like it. I like the knowing part. We all know what the job is and what we can do. We are left to do it. No baby sitting.
I go to a FAC. I hit the gate they tell me were to put y waggons. I break them and mark the back for the spotter. He dosn't have to be told. Its marked. I put mine away and go to were the gate person told me I will be working. I go in and start working. I find work to do. Very simple. Fork lift parked I get on it and use it. No fork lift. I become a "hand" and lend a hand to anyone I see fit to help.
Heck, I may just decide I do not like how the empty pallets are stacked and go restack them. Everyone has everything under controll. Break time.

2 millionplus, as a 35 year driver, with most of that under a union contract I must say that the union company I work for now has over 300,000 union employees in North America and it runs QUITE smoothly! :D
Thank you! ;)
