Most of you that know me, know that I like my guns and hunt as often as I can. Deer and pheasant mostly.
This is my latest acquisition (sp).
Interarms Mark X Mauser mountain rifle, synthetic stock, Leupold rings & bases. Need to find a decent scope, bipod & sling for it yet.

It's chambered in .300 Winchester Magnum. :wow:
Maximum effective range is generally accepted to be 1200 yards

I envision an elk or a moose in my freezer next year. :ninja:

I had a .303 Lee Enfield late 1944 model with the extra deep rifling that I bought new from The Army and Navy Store in South Edmonton for $25.00 Cdn. in 1962 that would give you a run for accuracy! I gave it to my son-inlaw when our Government's rules became too honerous. He has all the licenses and secure storage! It has the sporting stock not the original military wood. When you reload your own brass with proper precision when weighing the powder instead of off the shelf ammo it would give you every round within the 2" circle. That was one of my best bargains in my hunting years!

I hunt with a 300 Win Mag with pre 64 action, and it has a 3x9 Leopold scope. Great Elk rifle!
My son Casey hunts with a 30-06 Enfield Mauser that my Dads brother brought home from Europe at the end of WW2. They had the gun sporterized and my Dad packed it for many years before giving it to me. I had the original Weaver KV4 scope replaced with a Simmons 3x9 variable. Its a heavy old gun to pack but Casey loves it, and it has alot of history with it too, coming from the German Army so many years ago.

I know the previous owner and he bought it brand new and only fed 40 rounds through it. Due to his health, he can only use Thompson Contender type firearms. He has diabetes and his left leg was amputated below the knee because of the diabetes. Even with a prostetic lower leg / foot, he has to use a walking stick to move through the woods. Too hard to carry and use a long gun.
When he originally offered it to me, I told him that I couldn't really afford it and really didn't have any use for it. Throughout the day, he kept lowering the price (there was no alcoholic beverages consumed, so I know that he was in his 'right mind').
Finally, he said a price that I couldn't refuse. Actually, I would've been a fool if I did. So, I wrote him a check on the spot. It was bought cheap enough that I could easily double my money if I sold it as is (that was my original intention).
If I keep it, I plan on doing my own reloading. I've done some research on the equipment needed and it doesn't seem too expensive for initial purchases of the needed equipment & supplies.

I've heard they're great for taking down elk. I'm looking at a Nikon Bushmaster 6x18x40 scope. Scheels (sporting goods store here) wants $349.99 + tax for one. :yikes:
I found several NIB (new-in-box) online for around $225 + shipping (about $13-15).
Haven't checked at Gander Mountain or Cabelas yet.

Hope it's ok to bring a dead post alive.
Anyho, deer opener is this weekend. Anybody else gonna go shoot bambi or do I get them all to myself.
I thought about starting in the back yard but they seem to like the side yard better, stupid camera click paste thing not working plus I don't want anyone else getting the prize buck that hangs around here.
