Beautiful posting. I have been past Wright Patterson numerous times and never had anytime off to go see. Our Canadian Air force Museum at Trenton, Ont. I have been to last year and it is good but of course cannot compare! Just for fun if you look on Google Earth free version at Cold Lake Airforce base on the Alberta/Sask border the pictures were taken during the airshow! And the line up on the tarmac was pretty good! A new version of Google Earth is just out so it may not have it still. There was another one also in I believe Wyoming in the old version that had an impressive assembly along the taxi strips!

Back in late July, I was working with the WalMart dedicated fleet we have (had... we lost the account) out of Sterling, Illinois. I had finished making a delivery to a SuperCenter in Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin and was walking back out to my truck when I heard this incredibly loud noise in the sky.
I looked around to see what it was, and a pair of P-51D Mustang's came buzzing by, probably no more than 100 feet off the ground, and haulin' balls to the wall!
I've seen a lot of jets in my day, and I used to live near McDonnell-Douglas in St. Louis and watch the F-4's when I was a kid, but I'd never seen an old propeller-driven WW-2 fighter in the air until then.
Amazing how fast those planes can go!
