Cool....what's the deal with the guard across the windshield????

Yes, that is an interesting rig. (I am no fan of cab overs though) What is this running gear, twin steer axles or is it a very short tractor? Well powered for the bush roads, but unless that is a twin steer axles chassis, I would shudder to be out on the freeway with that short of a wheel base! What transmission is this equipped with? Is that a bug screen device at the bottom of the windshield? It will not impair the good visibility of the cab over design.

Cool....what's the deal with the guard across the windshield????

Thats what we call over here a "Bug deflector" or "Stoneguard". Works for both as being offroad in the bush Loggers are prone to both.

It's a Twin Steer axle setup..not sure on the transmission but can findout easy enough as I have produced a calendar for the company for the past two years :)

The older you get and the worse the knees are with arthritis the less you like cab overs! Then, I slipped and slid down catching my chin on the steps which was a real knock on them! I stuck to the conventionals after that!

Looks like a similar size to a Euro cabover. There's more room in the cab than you'd think, but I'd take a longer cab any day. The bunk is right up behind the seats. The truck I spent all last week living in had no passenger seat, so you just about had room to stand up straight in the morning to get dressed. Course, that had a lower roofline than that big KW.

This again raises the question of what is legal to post. I have been told by supposed in the know types that if a scene is available to the eye from a position on public property it is considered in the public domain, also if you repost some one else's photos or pictures, artwork, etc then it is only courteous to include the credit(s) even though they have already published it on the internet! Do we have any published advice from a recognized authority on this subject?

nztruckfan

Basically I agree with what you've said and have heard that exact statement form others in the "know" also.

OK, here is one for you. I call it my ribbon of shame. This happened on Wolfe Rd. N. in West Chicago above I-290 on my way to the rail yards on a Friday about supper time going under an overpass that I had been under at least 1/2 dozen times before. It is placarded 13'6" but is actually about 13'8". This time traffic forced me into the left lane, becasue they were stopping and going into driveways on the right. Just as I am going under the bridge I see a stick stuck into an open rivet hole in the bottom flange by kids I would presume. It broKe off quickly but ripped the roof open. I did get the load only because I agreed to drop the trailer in the dock and go get a tarp and ropes. That started to blow back and off by the time I reached the Michigan line.

We don't have that many trucks over here with huge sleepers but the ones we do have are razor sharp! Like the Western Star on the cover of my new calendar...

JFYI down load Google Earth free version. Then when you get used to navigating on it find the Hoover Dam at the very bottom tip of Nevada (South West point) and zoom in on it. When you pan back and forth over the canyon below the dam it will give you some perspective on the actual depth (perception). Then try some other interesting areas near where you expect to be for a preview and selection for the time limits constraints you are constrained by! Enjoy!

Nice new KW but I note in the background that you guys are "clear cutting" your forests too. How much replanting is being done and is it being effectively done? We are not doing enough to replace the trees we cut in Canada and it is going to be a major problem before long.

nztruckfan
10-07-2007, 02:36 PM
You make a good point there but yes we are replanting and it seems to be going very well from what I have seen. I get into the forrests alot doing photos of Logging Trucks like this T404 Kenworth. Actually you may be able to make out a trailer in the top left of this picture? That is a refridgerated trailer that houses the seedlings before they're planted so they're not exposed to harsh frosts before planting. Replanting teams are kept real busy but the forrestry industry seems to be handling it well...in this country anyway.

I've had that one asked before and it's not unusual due to the fact that most of your rigs run on sealed roads where as our rigs have a number of different road surfaces to deal with including alot of stones/grit and gravel. So the answer to your question is....it's a stoneguard. :)

Hey there the weather is really good over here..plenty of sun but we're coming in Autumn (fall) and the winter winds have started in the last couple of days brrrrr and tempertures are dropping ever so slowly.
Less sunlight hours for truck photos :-( and the shadows grow longer but never mind every spare minute I get I'll be out hunting for more photos :-)
