You might have already heard this. I got it last year, but for anyone that hasn't

Security Advisory; OPSEC Alert Google Search Engine

Google has implemented a feature which enables you to type a telephone number into the search bar, hit enter, and you will be given any information tied to that number (i.e., the person’s name, address, and physical location). If the search turns up a physical location associated to that number it also provides a link via MapQuest and you will be provided with a map of the specific physical location. Additionally, if someone is looking for a cell phone number, there is an option to purchase the locator information for a minimal fee.

Everyone should be aware of this! This is a powerful search engine and for example by putting in the following number 202-456-1414, you will get all the information associated with that number the engine can find. That said, if anyone (maybe a child or elderly adult) gives out his/her phone number, someone could now look it up to find out where he/she lives. The safety issues are obvious. Note that you can have your phone number removed or blocked.

We have provided the number above so you can see how this works. You can look up your own number if you choose. In order to test whether your phone number is mapped, go to: Google (http://www.google.com/.) Type your phone number in the search bar (i.e. 555-555-1212) then hit enter. If you want to BLOCK Google from divulging your private information, simply click on your telephone number and click on the Removal Form. Removal takes 48-hours. Check your own number and although this may not apply to you if you have an unlisted number or cell phone as primary contact, but you may know someone who needs to know this. Please share this information with family, friends and co-workers.

Well, that's what the email said, right?

Here's the search results for that number (http://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&channel=s&hl=en&q=202-456-1414&btnG=Google+Search)

Funny, I see lots of info for the White House. Exactly as the email said. :p ;)

There is another link to all published phone numbers that are not cell numbers: In Canada it is www.411.ca and that site leads to www.whitepages.com I found that it even works for numbers in Austrailia! The only protection from this one is to acquire an unlisted number!

I did do mine a year ago. I check to see if it's still non listed from time to time.

I just past it along since I received it again from another person and thought it would be a good idea if anyone hadn't heard.

Yes, mine is still listed and is the same for the last 43 years. Any one stupid enough to try telemarketing to me will tell you who the nastiest SOB in this quadrant is!
It is a private listing, not a business, and if I want some thing I will search for it myself.
Incidentally with your accent where are you located? Bungletherest or Lower Sloberovia? Telemarketing is the most annoying, time wasting enterprize on the face of the Earth.
They think nothing about invading your privacy and are so brainwashed that they frequently fail to understand the retorts and inferences. It should be outlawed outright, but politicins have no guts, gumption, nor gonads!
Some of these boilerroom operations are not even in N. America, so why should we even allow them to call here? They don't pay taxes here and they only take money out of the country, plus then they diss us and try to blackmail our troops who are trying to bring some sort of discipline and safety to their world. The actual caller is being ripped off for their time and efforts by unscrupulous business men. It is time to shut them down permanently. And yes I do get hung up on frequently!
