You aren't just whistling dixie! As an old steelmaker I know the temperatures by the color of the incandescence! The very bright yellow that you cannot focus on the surface detail is up around 2300, 2350 F! the lowest cherry dark red is down around 1550 or less. These temps are subject to the light conditions at the time, so with this out in the sunshine it will look different than inside and at night in the dark. With an optical pyrometer, I have done much thermal inspection of steel in the rolling mills, but the temperature colors are independant of the material type. Regardless of whether it is metal, refractory, ceramic, or molten lava in a volcano! That exhaust manifold is so hot that the studs and gaskets are damaged! If a pail of water was thrown on it it probably would shatter!

They had that truck at the bulldog round up in Hagerstown MD on september 15th. I think they are running 4 turbos. A few years ago they used to take it off the trailer and do burnouts in the parking lot. Good times. Gotta love those V8's :)

I bet the thermistor in the pyrometer gage couldn't handle that heat. There had to be expensive parts melting by the looks of the pic.

For that part to maintain its geometric shape at that temperature it would have to be an engineered alloy well into the heat resistance stainless cast steel range with lots of Molybdenum which has high heat hardness properties and other alloying elements to augment this design. It is an expensive part when it is made from "exotic" alloy designs all just for the pizzazz and show.
