Remember back in '77 when the movie Star Wars came out? The X-wing fighters were pretty cool.

Check out this X-wing fighter that a group of people built. :wow:

That looks real cool! Have forwarded the link to my son who is a RC Model scratch builder and flyer in London, Ont. Nom de Plume: "Lakota"
Since solid rocket fuel is classed as an explosive, I am guessing that these guys in California will have to have some kind of permits for possession and use no doubt. Also not everyone would know that these RC Model Pilots have to pass tests at their clubs for and receive Pilot's "Wings" plus they have to have liability insurance, etc. It is a big hobby in some areas! Here is one of Lakotas efforts!

And Lakota about to launch an electric powered RC Foamie

It must be nice to have deep pockets for such hobbies!

These Radio Controlled Model Flyers take much pride in their craft (handiwork and machines produced) that they video record their efforts. Some even self record by taping a mini camera to their own head to get it done, others will tape a mini camera to their model and take a panoramic view from the machine while it is flying. Here is a link to one of the best modelers in Northern Germany who has already made and flown an X-wing fighter and then dubbed in some Star Wars audio to his footage! www.rcgroups.com/forums/showatt.php?attachmentid=1235440
This is what the Californians have to measure up to! This man shown is a PEng. and designs his own models!

My son just emailed me this update link that shows the flight and wreck of the X-Wing in California this passed weekend. He said that maybe they should have gotten some help from the German chap who you saw in the other link from the RC Modelers! Hans-Joachim Wagner is a designer of models as well as an Engineer!

It is a spectacular sight and a sorry end to all that work and money! Like the RC Modelers say, "What ever you fly, you will some day bring it home in a garbage bag!"
