Like every parent, we often loan our kids tools, movies, crock pots, etc....... Especially soon after they've moved out on their own and haven't had a chance to get whatever it is, on their own. The only stipulations are, return it as soon as you're done with it and if you break it, fix it or replace it. Simple enough, right?
We also have a sheet of paper taped to the cupboard door that the item and who borrows it, gets written down. When it's returned, it gets crossed out.
Yesterday, I needed my staple gun. Hmmm.....not on the list, not in the cabinet on the porch or tool (junk) drawer in the kitchen. :wtf: Wife tells me that the daughter has it.
I called her and asked her to drop it off on her way to work last night.
Here's how the conversation went;
Me; Please drop off my staple gun on your way to work tonight.
Her; I'm using it today.
Me; You'll be done with it when you go to work, right?
Her; Yes.
Me; Then drop it off on your way to work.
Her; I don't go to work that way.
Me; It's not out of the way for you to drop it off.
Her; I leave for work at 10:30 and won't have time.
Me; Leave at 10:15 and you'll have plenty of time.
Her; No.
Me; Drop it off on your way home in the morning.
Her; No.
Me; Don't ask to borrow anything else..........click.
Am I being too much of a hard azz? It isn't like I demanded that she make the 10 mile trip just to bring it back.
Never had this problem with my son. :cheers:
