Hey All:
I'm a prospective future trucker who is possibly interested in interstate trucking while doing my spiritual writings and conversations with random people across the country. Job wise, what should I be aware of as a new trucker? What mistakes should I avoid? What's the main appeal of interstate trucking?

First off, let me welcome you aboard TSUSA. Enjoy your time here.
Job wise, what should I be aware of as a new trucker?
As a driver, companies 'expect' you to sit somewhere waiting to get loaded or unloaded.........for free. Insist on getting paid for detention time (Industry standard seems to be after 2 hours).
What mistakes should I avoid?
Don't make it a habit of doing 'favors' for your dispatcher. ie.......running hot to save his butt by pulling a load that the load planners knew about, but dropped the ball on.
What's the main appeal of interstate trucking?
That depends on who you talk to. Seriously, it could be anything from 'staying out 2 weeks at a time so I don't have to put up with my wife' to 'I've never made this much money in 2 weeks back home at the factory'. Each persons needs are different.

Well MysticTrucker, you'll either love it or hate it. I don't think there is any in-between! :D
If you give it a go, it will definitely give your spiritual inclinations a run for the money!
If you interested in reading about my experience as a trucker over the last year, e-mail (private message) me and I'll send you the link to my truck blog (I'm prevented from mentioning it anywhere on this site).
Best,
- Chris
