I'm getting the little one a puppy for Christmas. I'm thinking I'll probably get stuck with taking care of it and housebreaking.

One more week and my carefree lifestyle will be over. It's a nine week old Poople/Cocker mix. Wish me luck. Any housebreaking pro's on this board?
I'll need all the help I can get.

Keep an active eye on it and if it starts acting nervous or strange put it outside for a potty break, also get it a few toys right away and if it tries to chew on something else take the wrong thing away and give it the right toy. Also for teething roll up a couple of damp towels, size depends on the dogs size, and put them in the freezer, give it one occasionally while teething, the cold helps soothe the gums. You can also freeze up some broth ice cubes and give those as treats.

Hope these help.

BC, you got a cocker-poo. That's what Tramp is. You can go
online and look up info on the breed. Your dog will need to
go the groomers. Picking out a good groomer is like picking out
day care for your child ;) As far as house breaking goes. First thing
in the morning and if he goes in the house we just used to rub their
noses in it and put them outside. When he does his business outside
praise him and a treat works wonders. Here's some info for you BC

Characteristics of the Cockapoo:

The Cockapoo derives from the Poodle its extraordinary intelligence and non shedding coat. (Realistically, no dog exists that does not shed, so a better term would be low-shed.) When combed and brushed, some hair does come out, but it is not likely that you will find dog hairs on the carpet, etc. Because the Poodle is commonly referred to as non shedding, this term will be used. Likewise, there is very little dander, which is the main culprit in allergies to dogs. This makes the Cockapoo the ideal choice for those who have problems with allergies.

The Cockapoo's sweet nature, patient disposition and sturdy build come from the Cocker Spaniel. The resulting personality is unparalleled in its ability to relate to people and children. They are famous for being loyal, affectionate, open and friendly, non destructive, eager to please, easily trained, vigorous, clean, healthy and long lived (18-22 years). The dog's flexibility and range of sizes makes it ideal for a number of special situations.

Thanks Acorn and SS. I'm really hoping this works out. Daughter has extreme allergies, but has been worrying me to death about getting a dog. Her allergies are strange, she rashes up when she visits my one friends who has a jack russel, but her old daycare had a jack russel and they played all the time with no problems. I have another friend willing to take it in if there are severe reactions. But we really don't want to have to go there.

I hope to get the stuff at petsmart that you can put on the dog to keep the dander down as well, and bathe the little fluffball once a week.

I can't wait to have to get up even earlier in the morning to go outside in the cold in my jammies. :wtf: :wtf: :wtf: :yikes:

A chain hooked to the bottom of the rail and ran under the screen door with the hook end inside the screen door works wonders.

Open inside door, hook up dog and boot it out the door to do its business. Clean up outside once a week. ;)

It could be the shampoo they bathe the dog in, or the food they feed the dog gives it a different chemistry, or it could be something at their house not related to the dog at all. I would suggest taking the daughter with when you shop for shampoo, have her smell it and if she seems to have a strong dislike for it or reaction, don't buy that brand.

Edited to add: Could also be the flea/tick medication or collar.
