Just woundering what Swift flatbedding is like for a person just starting out for a company that will train you ? If any person works in the Swift flatbed let me know please. Im trying to decide on them or Schneider. I have herd Schneider is good but they have no flatbed open for me just van. And i really want to do flatbed work. I know there is other better companies out there but they all dont pay your schooling either for a person short on cash.
I got my start pulling flats for "Jerry's Kids"
IMHO it is a good place to start and get your feet wet(provided you get a good trainer.....which I did)
I outgrew the babysitting style of trucking that Swift employs pretty quick,as I am sure the others here can atest to that flatbedding tends to teach you to figure things out for yourself without alot of handholding
I did my share of E. Chicago steel mill loads(which is what Swift does in your neck of the woods). I found that I preferred to run on the Phoenix dispatch and stay in the western states(and if I did manage to get in Chicago was immediately put on a load to Laredo)
I reckon its as good a place as any if your finances are limited and you know you wanna go "skateboarding"
What about Roehl??

well chuck by now you probably already have a job, hopefully not with swift. my brother works for them and has the hardest time with them, if he has a questionm his only relaible sorce is his mentor, other than that the driver mangersm planners, dispatchers, will leave you out to dry in Chicago over Thanksgiving weekend, or waiting for a preplan in Laredo for 18 hrs. Time is money, and Swift has none for new drivers. I would do Schnieder vans until they either open a spot for flatbed, or get exp till you can go to another co.
