After looking at the scale and noticing that I didn't have far to go to top out it's reading ...I realized I needed to make some changes (a little late but better late then never). Six weeks ago we started a new weight management lifestyle so far I have lost 15.5 lbs and a combined total of 16.5 inches (totals from neck, upper chest, chest, ribs, waist, mid section, abs, hips, thigh, knees, and calfs).
It's been a slow process but it's working :). We have cut out all rice, potato's and pasta, these we will be able to get back (in moderation) as we get closer to our goal. We also have cut out junk food and sweets. We are eating a lot more protien items ...meats, fish, eggs and protien bars along with eating more often ...something within 3 hours ...main meals Breakfast, lunch and dinner then throw in a protien bar or egg, small salad or some fruit inbetween those meals and add to this 4 to 6 bottles of water daily . When we go out to eat we just order ...extra veggies, salad or fruit to replace the potato, rice or pasta.
I also try and walk for 20 to 30 minutes each morning or afternoon plus work out on the fitness ball. We are also trying out a health drink that supplies more then our daily requirments of fruit (19 total)...just some of a host of this drinks benefits are improved digestion, better sleep, better ciculation, promotes heathly blood sugar levels, treatment for arthritis, aiding metabolism, prevention and treatment of macular degenerations, and a strong cholesterol lowering capability.
We seem to be feeling better overall. My mobility, flexibility and overall additude has improved. I started out at 275 -1/4 lbs :( ...my goal weight is 215 :D, I have a ways to go but I'm on the right track ...hopefully I can achieve this without any set backs ...time will tell.

Way to go Randy. The only thing stopping me from doing the same thing is the lack of will power. The sweets are my biggest downfall. Open a box of Girl Scout cookies last night after supper. The wife ate one. I"m not saying what happened to the rest of them but there was nothing but an empty box left when we went to bed. Keep up the good work.

High 5's Randy!! I too am working on losing that weight that found me somehow in the past few years.
Now that I can walk without pain, I'm doing more and more walking. I never did really eat a whole lot, so I don't need to change much in my dieting. And its a good thing when I bake I don't normally eat much of it myself. I leave that to everyone else!

Awesome job Randy! Keep up the good work.
I have lost 40# since late last November. You're right, it is challenging, but it gets easier as time goes on.
Mostly picking the right foods and exercising approximately 1/2 hour a day, does very good!

I had to go in to see my regular Doctor a couple of weeks ago to re-new my blood pressure meds and had a very interesting conversation with Dr.Allen................seems to be that I have lost close to 60 pounds in the last 18 months and after checking my BP and pulse rate.............112/67 and 48 respectfully he decided to cut my medication dosage in half.
Hmmmmmmm................amazing what just a couple hours of exercise gets you.
He was a little concerned over the extremely low heart rate but that is due to a very strong medication called Clonidine that I take through a trans-dermal patch.
A heart rate of 48 is common in world class athletes but not in old fat dudes like me.I currently weigh in at 198 pounds and I stand 6'-2" tall.
Thirteen more pounds and I'll weigh what I did when I discharged from the USMC

[smilie=to funny.gi: ...free to you Acorn ...more on the way I hope!
Old Guy, if I can do this ...pretty much anyone can!!! Been there on those box of cookies ...I always thought  the box was very small as was a box that holds a dozen donuts or a 1/2 gallon ice cream container
My goals to again see my feet when I stand and I really want to stop having to look in a mirror to see if I remembered my belt :unibrow:
Gov, I want to stop taking my BP meds altogether if possible and from what my doctor said it is very possible if I can drop more weight and keep it off.
Beanie, Lady Mac and Gov. you folks are way ahead of me ...Great job by the way ...may I ask what you folks are eating ...need new ideas anything but chicken I'm loosing weight but growing feathers we are eating so much of it! We are trying more fish ...beef and pork but after awhile it all gets old as does the various veggies ...2 different kind nightly.
Our real test will come in just 5 weeks ...Alaska, Cruise and the dreaded midnight buffet, dinner breakfast and lunch menues . That is not going to be easy but I sure don't want to gain everything back in 6 days that took weeks to get off.
Thanks folks,
Randy

Thank you BTW! I know it's not easy and I'm not done yet - I figured I'm losing, I might as well keep going. :hehe:
I have a waffle for breakfast with sugarfree syrup. For lunch I usually have a South Beach Diet meal bar. Then for dinner I usually have fish and veggies or a salad. Twice a day I may grab one of those 100 calorie snack pack thingys, sometimes I don't. Sometimes for lunch or dinner I'll have Subway Ham mini sub w/light mayo. I've also had may sound bad, but the McDonalds Chicken Club w/o Mayo. It comes on a wheat bun and it's not too bad. To keep it from tasting dry I might put a little bit of ranch on it.
The key is to mix it up. The fish I get is Groton's, it comes in 2 squares per box for around $3.25, I have one square for dinner at about 100 calories. They have seasoned fish, Salmon, Talapia and I'm not sure what the other one is. Works for me, my kids aren't home very often for dinner, 4 1/2 minutes in the micro and done. Sometimes I'll make a sandwich and have that instead. Wheat bread, 2 slices of ham, white cheese and lettuce. Of course with either I'll have veggies.
I have even made Lasagna so I can eat it. Wheat noodles, ground turkey meat and low fat everything else, it was actually very good.
I have way under 1000 calories a day, more like 600 - 800 and I'm not hungry. Most people can't live on that, but I do treat myself once a week, but I'm careful what I choose to eat that day.
The ranch flavored Wheat Thins for a snack are also very good.

I've lost 15 since Feb mostly due to being more aware of what I'm shoving in my face. I started out at almost 370. Monday I weighed 349 wearing only my glasses (had to see the numbers).
I'm trying to eat a bit more healthily. More chicken instead of beef. I nibble on raisins instead of Raisinettes. I try to be aware of carbs and minimize them as much as I can without feeling deprived. The dietitian recommended more fiber which I'm trying to do but the supplements give me gas if I get too much. I'm also drinking more water and less pop. Tends to keep things moving through.
Mostly no big changes. Just awareness, portion control, and some minor adjustments. The biggest sacrifice is that I've cut waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back on chocolate. What I do have is in small portions (1 or 2 Kisses) and often sugar free.
Oh yeah, and exercise. I'm not doing a lot, but when opportunity arises and schedules permit, I walk. Either at a mall or (one of my favorites) inside an Oasis on the IL Tollway.

One thing that worked well for me was to quit drinking sodas altogether.
Of course, last week I was wanting iced tea in a restaurant and they were out- instead of just asking for water (like I SHOULD have), I had them bring me a Pepsi. Damn, that was nasty!
When you get used to NOT drinking sodas, they end up tasting NASTY!
as it has been, I almost never eat sweets, and lowering my carb intake by not eating white bread, potatoes, rice, corn, beans, or any other starches was a BIG help! I'm a LOT leaner now than I was just a year ago.
