When do you think a driver is careless. Failing to maintain a single lane, cutting people off, what do you think. I have my own opinion of what careless is but I want to see if you are as critical as me. Just wondering, Thanks.

I can understand a bobble here and there, but to consistently go over the line on either side is a serious issue. I've gotten the attention of many drivers by pulling alongside them and riding there to get them to look at me and turn on the cb and talk to me just so I could keep them awake.
Now back to the question at hand. Careless is, like you said MR, speeding, cutting in and out of traffic, tailgating, not paying attention to everthing around you, to name a few.

Since EVERYBODY screws up somehow every day, I watch for repeated mistakes of the same type.
Yeah, I know, some days I'm just as bad as the next guy, but I at least try to be safe at all times.

TAILGATING
I hate it when I look in my rear view mirror and all I can see is a grill and set of headlights.
I don't hit the brake but I will take my foot off the accelerator, either pass or back-off.
I've seen too many four wheelers sandwiched between two big trucks and have seen the results of when a four wheeler stops and the big truck doesn't.
Be safe.
Careless is:
Not watching for other traffic.
Cutting in and out of lanes (especially with no signal).
Speeding.
Traveling too slow for the traffic around you.
Tailgating.
Waiting too long to start braking, esp at higher speeds.
Trying to "draft" others, or trying to keep up and follow someone else (not someone you are traveling with and following).
Staying in the hammer lane, while not passing, so faster moving traffic can't pass.

Careless can be alot of things.
To me my big pet peeve is people that go all the way to the road before stopping.
Like I am going North and a car coming from the east/west goes past the stop sign and at the last minute stops right near the road. I do stop and let them go and hop in behind them. I don't usually write one out, but let them know what the law on it is. Now mind you I don't mind if you are going 5-10 miles an hour and slowly creep towards the road to get a safer look, but to wait until you are right on the road to stop bugs me to no end.
But back to the topic:
Going left of center repeatedly(sp)
Unsafe movements
Peeling out
Inattention
I think anything outside of staying in your lane without weaving could be considered reckless, but blatant disreguard is another story. If you're not drunk, don't act like it on the street.

Now that we all have a good idea of what it is, what should be done when a driver is careless.
1 st time... warning.
2nd time... ticket
3rd time... higher ticket
4th time... licence suspended.

After observing the driver to make sure it isn't a 'random' thing, I'll do one of several things.
1. Get the unit number off the truck and call the company it belongs to and speak with the Operations Manager or the Safety Dept. Manager. If it's a non commercial vehicle, I'll call the local LEC or SP.
2. I'll back off and follow (if I can), and call the local LEC or SP. Once they arrive and follow, they can take it from there.

I got one of the NAPA guys driving a little to wildly today. I didn't want the man to lose his job, but rather learn a lesson.
I called the NAPA shop prior, as the Manager and my Step Dad are pretty good friends and let him in on what was going to happen.
I had Steve(NAPA delivery driver) call NAPA and explain what he was doing and why he was stopped. Steve told me he would rather take the ticket then call them. I had told him that we were thinking of taking him to jail for careless and reckless and towing the truck, or call them to pick it up.
Needless to say, he called and is keeping his job. Most of what he did was driving fast and swerving in and out of traffic. Lesson was learned, and every goes on happy.

What I do when somone is driving like an azz is try to get behind them(not directly) and point the inboard camera at them for a while(PC to pull them over and proof in court).
If in heavy traffic I will get sufficient amount of driving and give them the blue light special(lights and siren).
What the camera does is CmyA and gives me reason to stop the vehicle. What I like to do is show them the video and let them know that I can really screw them with insurance and license points.
I rarely if ever see them driving like they did when I first saw them.
If any of you can mount a digital camera or video camera to the dash or from the roof I highly advise it. Especially you O/O's as they can be used as evidence and in claims. In today's sue happy society you can never have enough. SO CYA ALL THE TIME!!!

I always gave truck drivers more consideration than a passenger vehicle driver. I figured the trucker was out trying to make some money and didnt need me taking some of it. Some people just need to be stopped. When I do stop a truck, I usually try to work out some way to make the situation safe without a ticket. I will gather all their paperwork and give it a once over and then have the chat. Usually that does the trick. I have seen some people like I'm sure you have seen that are all over the road and just plain dangerous. When their running cars off the highway and tailgating to speed, I hand out a ticket or worse.
The thing that i think is most careless is when; People refuse to drive with the speed of traffic on 2 lane roads. I don't care what the speed limit is. If traffic is moving at 20 km/h over limit. Everyone should be! I hate when i come up behind some moron driving 70 km/h in a 80 zone. When everyone else is running 100 km/h. Then sometimes they will speed up and slow down, and i can't get past them!
If i ever come up behind someone slower, i always try to pass, I figure a speeding ticket is better than running into the back of the slow idiot. Cuz i have a problem with tailgating, so i always try pass them.
It's even worse when some idiot has a huge line of cars and trucks behind the, cuz there going too slow, and they won't speed up or pull over to let people past. I never have people behind me. If i do, i know i'm going too slow, or else i will pull over or slow down to let them all past me.
I also hate when some idiot drives slow, has a huge line or traffic behind them, then decided they want to turn left. making everyone stop behind them! If you have traffic behind you and want to turn left, pull off on shoulder, let everyone past, then pull out and do your left turn! Think about the people behind you!
