I know many of us have Type 2 Diabetes. Since I got it, I still continue to learn more about how to do things. Some I've gotten from the Doctor, but many from other folks that have the disease.

This tip I got from the phlebotomist, at the VA.

When checking your blood, don't take the first drop of blood. It will have secretions from the poking of the skin, that can alter the reading. The same goes for forcing the blood to come out. That also causes those same secretions.

A tip she also said was to rub the area you're going to poke, to get more blood there. This really does help.

There's the first tips. Let's hear your's.

Didn't think this would work but in two weeks my blood sugar has gone down from 7.4 to 5.6 and is stable in that area.

Started taking a spoonfull of pure honey morning and night ------ simple but it seems to work

I hadn't heard that one Booky. And MM that one is news to me too. Thx, both of ya.
I have been told and have learned it to be the best way is to check your blood at the same time every day. Be it once or however many times you check it. Also, when you walk, do it for the same amount of time at the same time every day. I also try to eat at the same times every day when I can.

Everyone reacts to foods, medications, stress, illness, etc differently. Learn how everything effects you and work with your doctor to develop a plan that is tailored to your needs and learn how to adjust your intake if appropriate to compensate. If your doctor does not understand this then find one who does.

If you take oral meds and drive get yourself a pill box with enough compartments to cover all your medications for the week for each dose. It is far too easy to forget to take your meds due to the stress and hectic lifestyle that trucking has to offer. With a pill box it is easy to see if you took that days meds or not at a glance.

Many diabetes medications have a cumulative effect which makes taking them every day all the more important.

Final tip from me: Control your carb intake but do not try to eliminate carbs. This will only screw up your control of your blood sugar. Also you should try to consume the same amount of carbs at each meal and the same total of carbs every day.
