What was the first vehicle you ever owned?

Mine was a 1978 Chevy Silverado Fleetside shortbed that I paid $1,700 for in 1987.

It had over 220,000 miles on it when I got it, and was still in great mechanical shape. It just needed a bit of cosmetic work, so I had it repainted, found a nice set of Ansen slotted mag wheels for it at a garage sale, and re-did the interior a short time later. I got a job as an autosound installer & put a nice sound system in it in 1988.

I put a LOT of miles on that pickup in 5 1/2 years, along with 2 new engines. It got me around through high school, while I attended college out-of-state, and a daily 60-mile round-trip commute to work for three years after that.

I sold that pickup in '92- with 480,000 miles on it- to a co-worker at the time who is said to still be driving it now. The body is rusted out (just like a lot of older Chevy pickups) but still going strong mechanically.

My first vehicle was a 1965 Mustang 2+2 Fastback. My Daddy kept trying to get me to buy the Corvair but I simply wasn't gonna get no 6 cylinder!
It was Fire Engine Orange ( red) with a 289 and 4 speed tranny. I paid a whopping $495.00 for it. It was all Pony, just like it rolled off the showroom floor. I loved that car and wish every day I still had it. I kept it for a long time until I finally had to sell it.

1949 Ford two door coupe with a flathead V8 and 3 on the tree----- think I paid $200.00 for it in 1960. Came in the normal Ford color ---Black.

Wish I still had it ---be worth a pretty penny now.

When I was 11 years old, some friends of the family GAVE me a Nash Metropolitan:

In case you're not familiar with the Nash Metropolitan, here is a photo of one that I found on the net:

Goofy car, huh?

But it had a 3 on the tree with a non synchro first gear, and I practiced double clutching to downshift back into first gear, and then learned how to do that without using the clutch.

Yeah, I know, I was a weird kid.

My first car was a 1977 Chevy Nova 2dr. It had the 250 inline 6 cyl with a 1 bbl carb. The car was a turtle in anything under 2 miles but give it a long race and I swear it did not know a top end.

1929 Model A coupe with the rumble seat removed and a box put in it's place to make it a pickup. Bought it from my Dad in 1950 for $75.00. Was given that car by his boss so Dad could get tire and fuel stamps during the War then sell the stamps to his boss. Dad overhauled that car twice b/t 1945 and 1950 and drove it from LA to Sheldon, Ia. twice in that time. Oh, yep, it was Black!!:p

I have the same attitude about my old Dodge Charger that I'm slowly putting back together. With an all-out 474 cubic inch big block built for drag racing (and not very easy to drive on the street), I'm lucky to get more than 9 MPG around town when I drive it- and I almost always have to use VP C-12 Racing Fuel in it.

In 1977 I bought my first car for 250 bucks..................................a 1968 Plymouth Fury 3 four door!!!!!

I worked at a gas station part time and the owner sold used cars.Every tuesday he went to the local car auction. He knew I didn't have much money so he offered to find me a car at auction and sell it to me at cost.Every tuesday I'd stop and see if he'd found me a decent car.Every week it was the same answer "just didn't see anything worthwhile today" the bossman would say.One tuesday I stopped by and said to my friend who was working "who's piece of sh!t Fury is out in the parking lot?". Before my friend could answer my boss came out of his office and said "it's your piece of sh!t,get your checkbook!!!!".Turned out to be a decent car.

My 1st car ..a '63 VW bug.....the x-mas ornament( it rolled 2nd week I owned it....green bug with bright red fenders from then on;):D)..

Popped the hood to fill the tank and carried a spare belt "just in case"....

up graded to a "70 Super Bettle".....previous owner had oil trouble....Dam I miss those cars. You could drop the motor and have it rebuilt and back running in less than a weekend..........PLUS pass every gas station...

Snoope

The '63 survived for 10 more years..the "learning curve" for my 3 younger brothers...15 acres and 5 gallons of gas ...plus survived my wifes abuse to "clutching"

My first car 1979 Toyota something-or-other that my parents bought from a family friend for a hundred bucks. It ran good, but the fuel pump leaked bad, tried to find one to replace it with no luck, so it went to the junk yard cause I got sick every time I drove it from the smell. The first car I bought was a 1985 Ford Thunderbird, drove the heck out of that car till it died, got a 89 Grand Am (freaking quad 4 motor) that thing cost me a small fortune and then it burned up. Bought another Thunderbird and drove that thing for 3 years till it finally gave up the ghost.

I would love to get my hands on a 1996 Thunderbird LX, I love them cars but cant find one worth buying

I paid $600 for a 1950 Jaguar roadster in 1960. I put another $600 into repairs, and sold it a year later for $600. It was a fun experience.

When I was eleven in 1953, my dad and I built a go-cart with plans from Popular Mechanics. I invested $200 in a Briggs&Straten and pneumatic tires. The only junk yard part was the steering gear from an antique Ford truck. Popular Mechanics paid for an article about our finished project; and more recently, a photo has appeared in Reminisce Magazine. I drove "Ma's Worry" on the streets of Grand Rapids, MI, for a couple of years until I was ticketed for driving without a license and driving an unlicensed motor vehicle. Then, I sold it to a neighbor.

Mine was a 66 Dodge Corenet 4 door with a slant 6 and 3 on the tree. Bought from a couisn, $300.00. Nothing fancy. Just a good ole dependable car. In the inter when the temps got down way below zero, out of the entire famly, it was the only car that would start. He'd then go around to other family memebers, jump start thier cars.
The only mechanicl problem,, the shift linkege would jam up, if i got to crazy trying to speed shift, out of first. Would have to pull over, and put it back together. At the time i wasn't well off for cash, so i just lived with it the way it was.lol

Went to my first concert in this car before i bought it. 8 of us packed in. Dare i mention the smoke was so thinck, you couldn't see outside.?:cool:
No worries about gting busted for underage possesion of alcohol. Driver side floor board had a hole, wide enough to pass a six pass thru. I had to use it once.:harhar::harhar:

At 18 i came into a little money and ordered a Brand New Toyota SR 5 4x4, tried my best to blow up the Dodge's motor. That thing kept going and going and going.

New pick up arrived, sold the car, yet to a younger cousin. Lost track of it after it was sod to 3 other cosuins. But recently was told it;s sitting in a back yard, in my home town.

Mine is a 73 Charger S/E. It has been in my family since it left the dealer's lot and still has the original black paint & white vinyl top, as well as the original AM/FM stereo with pushbutton memory. The A/C works and has been converted to work on R-134a.

It came with a 400 big block and 727 Torqueflite with a Slap-Stik shifter. I still have the original engine and transmission but the built 474 (stroker motor) and beefed-up 727 T/F in there now are too much fun.

The car runs mid-13s at 106 MPH in the 1/4-mile while starving for fuel, but should be well into the 12s on street tires once I get the fuel system squared away. I'm running a Carter 750 CFM carb and it's nowhere near enough for that engine.

I will post photos when I get into a better connection area.

My Dad gave me his car, when he bought a Corvair. It was a 1952 Ford 4 dr post. Flathead V-8, 3 on the tree, with Smitty glas packs, dual exhausts. Never could sneak in late with that thing. I did lots of engine work to it in Auto Mechanics class. Decked the block, milled the heads, etc. Ran like a raped ape. I used to eat small block Chevies up, like they were nothing. I had a problem, breaking motor mounts, which took out many radiators, so I sold it to a farmer, who until I lost touch with anyone that knew him, said that car was still out in his field, running his irrigation pump. Last time I heard about the car was about 5 or 6 years ago. Not bad if it was still running since 1967.

After that one, I bought myself a 1960 Ford 2 door station wagon. 6 cyl, 3 on the tree. Actually, that thing was a beast. Ran forever. Wasn't cool, BUT it just kept running and running.
