I just got off the phone with FedEx CC and I will go over the fuel surcharge program with you:

An Example of the way it works;
If fuel is $4.00 per gallon, you would take that $4.00 and subtract from that $1.20 leaving $2.80 divide that by 6 miles per gallon for a tractor, you fuel surcharge would be $.4666 cents per mile fuel surcharge.

And now if a truck signs on, they will give you a $400 fuel card once you finish orientation.

Added to a good mileage rate and it might make a difference to switch.

and what happens when fuel reaches 6-8 dollars....and don't tell me it won't.....so when it reaches 6 per gallon....then what.......?

Then the FSC would be .80 per mile at $6 and $1.133333 per mile at $8. Pretty easy formula.

And that's the way it works, but then again, when fuel reaches that much, can we afford the mark-up for anything?

Fuel is already high enough that even with a surcharge, we know many who have their trucks up for sale as they just don't want to deal with it anymore. Even my dad said if his truck wasn't paid for, he'd park it because of fuel prices. As it is, he's still talking about parking it in the back yard and turning it into a flower bed! (Those were HIS words) He has no truck payments, and very low trailer payments, and the trailer is almost paid off. If he's not liking the fuel prices, I can see why those who have payments are struggling.

Even paid off, his truck is still costing him money, once paid off there always seems to be some little thing that is costing you money. And with fuel the way it is, I don't see how anyone can justify the fuel costs. The costs keep being passed on to the customer, and finally to the consumer. Sooner or later, something has to give.

Even with the FSC @.46666 I bet they are not paying a good mile base though. IMHO if a guy is not getting at least $3.50 for ALL miles he should park it. I still know a few O/O's that pull for under $1.00. even with a FSC that is NOT enough.

And I agree with you, our tractors for a solo are running at $2.65 per loaded mile and $1.47 per mile overall. and for a team that goes to $2.24 per loaded miles with a $1.61 per mile overall.

If anyone is running for a dollar a mile has to be nuts.
