Just thinking, since so many of you have been so many places in this country and in the military. What's you're favorite place you've visited (or been to while working)?

Is there anywhere you still want to go? Are you planning any fun vacations soon?

I love the whole area around Atoka, Oklahoma. But the greatest thrill of my life was going over Hoover Dam in a big truck. You can't do it anymore. I wish I could find those pics. They're packed up somewhere.

McGee, if you ever get to Germany, you 'have to' see these places;

Dachau (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dachau_concentration_camp)
Garmisch-Partenkichen (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garmisch-Partenkirchen)
Neu Schwanstein & Hohenschwangau (http://www.schwangau.de/)
Checkpoint Charlie (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Checkpoint_Charlie)
The Olympic Stadium (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olympic_Stadium_%28Munich%29) in Munich.
The Eagle's Nest (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kehlsteinhaus)
The city of Augsburg Germany (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Augsburg)
The city of Cologne Germany (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cologne)

and of course, the 'mandatory' boat tour of the Rhine River. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhine)

Austria is just as beautiful as Germany is, but I don't remember too much of the time I spent there.

While stationed in Germany ('83-'86), we took tours to every European country that wasn't Communist, except for England, Ireland and Scotland.

Then see our own country,I've done the upper routes east to west and the I-10 route back across the bottom.........she has done Utah and Arizona plus we did that 8 year vacation in Florida...I just need to convince her that RV's can be on Petercar Chassis:cool::cool:

Dave,
Not sure if I'll ever get to Germany. But Dachau would be one of the places I would want to see. I was at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum when it first opened. It was very interesting, but crowded when it first opened. Still it was very profound. The actual artifacts made it feel very terrible, the interactive stuff almost took away from the effect of the terrible things that happened.

I want to get to Wright-Patterson AFB to the Air Force Museum too.

Looks like a lot of interesting things to see. I've never been up close to a big cargo transport plane, I would like to get a feel for the actual size of one of those. It's amazing to me how much power such a big plane has and the ability to actually carry so much cargo.

How's this? ;)

This is a C-5 Galaxy. The largest cargo plane in our Air Force.

You can see more pics here.
http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/aircraft/c-5-gallery.htm
The Galaxy is one of the world's largest aircraft. It is almost as long as a football field and as high as a six-story building and has a cargo compartment about the size of an eight-lane bowling alley. The C-5 is the only aircraft that can transport any of the Army's combat equipment, including the 74-ton (66,600-kilogram) mobile (http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/aircraft/c-5.htm#) scissors bridge, tanks and helicopters. The maximum weight for takeoff during peacetime is 769,000 pounds, and the allowance increases to 840,000 pounds in wartime. However, the plane has been flight tested at more than one million pounds at the Air Force Test Center at Edwards, AFB.

lived/worked in Spain for 3.5 years, and traveled extensively around the European theatre.

Saw alot learned alot and have fantastic memories.

Have essentially traveled around the world, and I can honestly say that one of my absolute favorite places was Dubai,UAE(and the time I spent there was well before it was as developed as it is now!!!)

Tasmania runs a VERY close second(without a doubt the friendliest most hospitable people I have ever met)

Gives me a good feel for the size of the plane Dave. Thanks for the pic.
So could you back into the plane with no problems? Talk about skills!

Once they complete the new bridge just west of the dam, you will be able to see it from there. My understanding they will build parking to accomadate those in a truck to park there, so you can visit the dam.

Some of the prettiest country to me would be the Northwest. I like all the trees, mountains and streams.

I was recently in New Orleans on my way back from Houston and the company paid for us to stay in a hotel (Royal Sonesta) on Bouron St. I thought some of the older architecture there was pretty neat. By the way if you do happen to stay in a hotel on Bourbon St and want to park in the hotel garage it will cost you 32 clams a day. Lucky for us the company paid for it.
