Last I seen my Doc, she was 'mad at me' for not losing any weight.
I had tried to lose weight in the past, but it just never really worked out. Seems I'd lose 5-10 lbs, then gain back twice as much. :wtf: So, on my birthday back in Feb., I decided that I'd give it another try.
Anyways, she's gonna be surprised when I go visit her again in about a month for my 'twice a year check-up'. :D I'm still taking my BP meds, but my BP and heart rate have fallen quite a bit from what they were.
I've lost 42 lbs in 4 months.
Target weight is 220. I'm at 290 as of this morning when I stepped on the scale.
I suppose she'll start in on me about smoking again since she can't rag on me about not losing weight.

They'll always find something. Yell at you for your weight, smoking, or whatever-- while they go to Burger King for their lunch break and get a super sized combo meal in the drive thru while smoking a cig waiting for their food.:D

One thing that has worked well for weight loss- drink very little to no sodas- even diet sodas.
Something about them seems to slow down one's metabolism.
I almost never drink sodas nowadays and the weight is still gradually coming off. Of course, reducing the size of the meal portions has helped too.
I'm down to 215 lbs now- 25 lbs left to go until I reach my goal weight of 190!

Wait until you hit that plateau - it SUCKS! I lost 48# and hit a plateau I went a month and a half with only losing about 3#. Just don't give up, you'll have to trick your body to get it to lose again. Currently, I've lost 57#.
Congrats and keep up the good work! ;)
I had to laugh when I met Magicman Dave for dinner. He said "What did you do with the rest of you?"

Not always;). About three months ago my wife, the cardiac-rehab. specialist, insisted that I have a complete physical including a nuc-med stess test. A week later my Doc. called us in for the consult after the results came back. He sat us down with a somber look and then winked and said, "you're in pretty good shape for a 40 year old".
That sounded good to me because I'm 72+ and still working every day. Yes I'm about 10# heavier than I like but the Doc. said I'm not to worry about that, just keep doing what I'm doing for another 10 years ( we workout together at the gym) and we'll see how I'm doing then.
What is it I'm doing? I eat a lot of dead cows and other meat usually cooked on the grill. Have at least one adult beverage a day and stay away from meds and doctors, people die from seeing doctors to often you know.. Oh, the best thing I did was quit smoking about 25 years ago...:fishing::cheers:

GOOD JOB DAVE!!!![smilie=mylove.gif]
In 2003, I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and put on Avandia. Worked the diabetic diet which is really hard to do otr, took the pill every day. Gained 30#s in 3 months! Dr said it was expected as it was a side effect of the medicine, but he wanted me to continue taking it.
By the winter of 06, I had gained another 10#s, my sugar was still high, not radically so, but above what it should be. I was having a lot of problems with my legs swelling and had started having chest pains and palipations. Dr said it was stress related.
I had changed jobs in fall of 06 and finally had medical insurance.
In the summer of 07, on the OOIDA forums, someone posted a link to Dr Mary Vernon, a bariatric physician. http://rjr10036.typepad.com/askdrvernon/ (http://rjr10036.typepad.com/askdrvernon/) After going to her site and reading it through, what she said made total sense to me. She uses the low carb lifestyle to treat diabetes and has a phenominal success rate with type 2.
I checked with my insurance, found she took it, and made the appointment for Aug 07. Dr Vernon sees people from all over the country. After the initial visit and tests, you do not necessarily have to see her in person again. She will do monthly phone consultations with you or online email consultations and you can have blood work/urine tests done by your family physician and sent to her to evaluate your progress.
I was impressed with Dr. Vernon. She ordered extensive blood and urine tests and gave me an ekg and scheduled me to come back in a month. At that time, she took me off the avandia and gave me a diet plan according to the low carb philosophy. I dropped almost 30#s the first month and the chest pains went away!
I have since lost another 10#s, it is a slow process, and feel better. The low carb lifestyle is easy to do on the road...meat, eggs, cheese and a small amount of certain vegetables a day...no milk, bread, flour made products, rice, starches or sugar. My cholesterol numbers are good, triglicerides are good and my sugar is going down slowly to more normal levels...all without medication. A1c has gone from 8.8 when I started to 6.6. I want to lose another 40#s then will go to maintainance levels of the program.
The American Diabetes Assoc. is starting to get into the low carb way of life.
One of the side effects of Avandia is congestive heart failure...too much fluid around the heart. I think that if I wouldn't of seen Dr. Vernon when I did, I would be dead now due to the avandia and heart failure.
I do not recommend anyone starting the low carb lifestyle without having physician support and tests run first. It totally changes your metabolism away from being carb fueled. Low carb is truly a lifestyle change and is not to be used as a 'diet' to lose 10#s. I will live low carb the rest of my life.

Go DAVe, Go DAVE!!! That's great!
While I know I'm still losing, I'm not sure just how much, as the doc's office keeps weighing me with that dang brace on, which is heavy! I was 2 pounds under my last pre-brace weight WITH the brace on this past week.
