Economy forcing people to make the toughest cut: family pets

BANGOR, Maine - As household expenses - food, fuel, heating costs - rise at an unprecedented rate, more and more pet owners are finding themselves making the difficult choice to give up their pets.

"It is absolutely heart-wrenching to watch grown men cry," Dawn Weber, an adoption counselor at the Bangor Humane Society, said this week. "We have people who say they have given up their cell phone, shut off the cable, and they still can’t make ends meet. So, now it’s the dog or cat that has to go."

I just took Tramp to the vet yesterday. Rabies, distemper shots, blood drawn
for heartworm, heart worm meds(6 months) and a check up $142.
BTW his weight is perfect:rolleyes::wtf:13.1 lbs

Tramp has old age moles started. Their not cancerous:) but b/c they do bleed
from scratching and chewing he would like them removed .Plus he said Tramp
needs some dental work:eek: It's $350 for mole removal and $350 for dental:jawdrop::wtf: So he said he would do both for $350:D:yikes:

Tramp does have cataracts. His cental vision is gone but he still has periphel. Then he told me what cataract surgey cost $2500 an eye:jawdrop: He did say the cataracts would eventually disolve
but then he could get glaucoma:wtf:

My vet has asked me about setting up a temporary shelter in exchange for free vet care due to the number of animals that are being eliminated from the budget. I have the room and would love to do it but we are not home enough and traveling with 2 dogs is more than enough for me.
