This afternoon the boss told me to take the water tank truck to the quarry in Mackville and fill it with water, then go and water down the new gravel in a subdivision where we're putting in the new roads.
Watering the gravel prior to compacting it with a roller helps to get better compaction.
Here are some pics:
Filling the tank:

Watering the road. The water sprays out under pressure from sprayers located at the front and rear of the truck.(sure would be fun to turn those things on when some moron gets in your way on the road!):wicked::
The water is pressurized by a PTO operated pump underneath the truck.

Snoope, I ain't sure about how many gallons that tank is, but I'll look for an I.D. tag on it and try to find out.
It is fully baffled inside though, driving down the road, even with a half tank of water you hardly even feel any surge or sloshing.
That truck was a quad axle dump until a year and a half ago.
The boss decided we needed a newer water truck, so off came the dump body and on went the tank.
Previous water truck was a 1973 Oshkosh 6X6.:yikes:

Just for grins........ ;)
The water truck that's been hosing down the haul road outta the quarry we've been hauling out of has a 5000 gallon tank.
The pump at the 'closed quarry' (same company owns this quarry, they just don't haul rock out of it), just down the road from where we haul out of, take 4 minutes to fill it. :wow:
The water truck operator told me that if we wanted, we could 'douche' our trucks under the pipe to 'knock the top 16 layers of dirt off 'em'.
I just wish he'd leave the dang sprayers on when I pass him! My truck could use a 'bath' any time I can give her one. ;)
