Looking to purchase a semi auto pistol, leaning towards the Glock 22 any thoughts? Also considering the guide rod laser sight as an option. Thanks for your insight.

Dan, I know my son, the one that just graduated from school with his law enforcement degree or whatever they call it, prefers the glocks. I don't know much about them but he has already bought 2 and was a smartazz when I asked him what he wanted for his birthday. He said another glock!
(No he didn't get it, thats not in my budget! LOL)

Dan ---I have never shot the model 22 but it is just a varient of the model 17 and I have shot several of those.
I do not like them --- maybe it is personal but they do not feel or point right to me. Some people swear by them but most that I know swear at them. If it was me I would stick to a Colt 1911 or one of the many Colt clones on the market.
For a carry pistol (to my mind) nothing beats a Colt Commander.

I have the Model 22. I really like it. I like the way it feels in my hand and the way it shoots. It has been very dependable. I bought mine used 14 years ago. There is a good reason why many law enforcement agencies use the Glock.

Is there a gun store with a firing range near your home? A lot of times, they'll rent you a couple guns so you can fire them before you drop a handful of cash on one, only to find out that it just 'ain't right'.
I don't know why, but I just don't like polymer (plastic) handguns. Should be dishwasher safe though. :p:D
Also, I agree with Bookworm. Nothing beats a M1911A1 style handgun in .45 ACP. My full size conceals pretty easily. Also, it doesn't 'kick' too much, so the wife will shoot it if she wants.

Better than that I have a friend that teaches gun safety classes in the area and he has a range at his house, also quite a collection of different pieces to shoot. We are arainging to get together sometime mid to late AUg and do some comparing.
As for the sight I have looked at those grip type and am still leaning towards the guide rod sight, less bulk and noticable.
Thanks again.

Everyone has their favorites and mine is Ruger. I have a P95 9mm but my regular ccw weapon is still my old S&W .38 Chief special air weight. It has the same, or nearly so, stopping power as a 9mm and conceals very well. I've carried and qualified with that little weapon for so long that I just don't want to change.

My first pistol was a P-85. That was a great one. just had a faifly heavy trigger pull but dependable as hell.

Check around an make sure I'm not getting you in a mess with this but if you get the Glock use a SMALL amount of grafite on the slide be careful not to get it ANYWHERE ELSE on the reciever just where the slide works back an forth. this will help keep the action smooth and help prevent the rare jamming of the action.. again double check this I don't want to lay something on you that I have never tried myself only to find out that I'm in a heap of trouble for messing up your pistol.
