Today the boss announced that from here on we will only be working 1/2 days on Saturday, unless there is some major problem that needs to be dealt with to get something fixed in time for Monday morning.
The major subdivision jobs we had going are just about completed, and the major road contractor that hires trucks & equipment from us is getting caught up too.
Today I was home by 1330, it was a shock to my system to be home so early on Saturday.
Mowed the lawn and did a few other chores that have traditionally been reserved for Sunday.
Kinda early in the season for this, but I believe all this economic sh*t going on is putting a damper on things.

Hey!! Now ya'll can get up and go to Church instead of workin--:devil[1]:
And yes, the fin. situation is not going to help most of us in the building trades. We are not as affected here in N. Tx. due to the oil and gas business but still it is slowing somewhat. The O & G outfits are still advertizing for local tanker yankers to haul water to the rigs.

Well, last night the boss announced that we are now on a 5 day work week, Mon. to Fri. 0700 to 1630.
Complete shutdown on Saturday until further notice.
I could kinda see it coming, as most days this week, there were operators, drivers & laborers all done & punching out for the day at 1430 - 1500, and the other day I counted 13 machines parked in the yard.
I still managed to get 50 hours in, since several days this week there were machines to move late in the day.
Actually we're one of the busier excavating companies in the area right now, at one of our competitors just around the corner from our shop, I've noticed that their employees parking lot has been nearly empty for the past few weeks, and most of their dump trucks were sitting in the yard.
The Mackville Quarry, just north of the shop has been like a ghost town the last few times I was there. In "normal" times, that place was wall to wall trucks with a line waiting to scale out, now when you drive in there, the loader guy is usually waiting to load the truck, instead of the trucks having to wait to get loaded the way it used to be. There used to be 2 or 3 loaders in there to keep up with all the trucks, now there is 1 loader.
As much as I hate winter, at least when it snows, I'll get more overtime running the salt truck and working on "casualties" of the plowing operations.

Kranky1,
I see it coming also......BUT the dam "Clocksuckers" are still trying to get 65-70 hours.....Boss even gave them a "wake-up" call by shifting 2 of us to different jobs........How is it said "lights are on but nobody's home"....
Local word is once the last 2 bids come out....20 people gone b-4 X-mas party and up 50+ after.....
I'm lucky to get my 2 weeks off for vacation and this winter will be no different......2 wheelers working ALL winter;pipe sand in ,loam out....collect snow when necessary.........

We're busier than a one legged man in a butt kicking contest.
Not much construction work though. Construction work is winding down fast.
Hauling and spreading ag lime is keeping us busy 6-7 days a week.
Last week, I had 85.5 hours in. :yikes: Damn nice paycheck though. :devil[1]:
Bad thing about this though, it'll come to a screeching halt right around Christmas. Then it's back OTR until the snow is gone next April or May.

Kranky1,
I'm too old for this.........11 days ago I posted about the "Cs" not paying attention.....Last friday it started, temporary lay-offs and with the "State" pulling all 4th quarter bids.....folks are getting nervous or STUPID....
We are going to 40+ hours next Monday and folks are "racking up" overtime........guess what, bite the hand that feeds you and October will be the start of an extended holiday..DUH...
Only good out of this....the shop will get ahead instead of "Caught up".....
