When we haul ag lime or sand with our belly dumps, we roll out the tarps to keep the stuff from blowing off onto passing cars.

Yesterday, one of our part time drivers 'forgot' to roll up his tarp after he emptied out.

So, when he got back to the quarry, the loader operator didn't see it either and he dumped a full bucket of lime on it..........effectively tarping the bottom of the load.

A tarp for these trailers costs around $800-1000 bucks + labor to install. :wow:

:duh2[1]:

Or maybe the loader operator did see it and decided he'd load the trailer anyway, just to f with the guy.

There's a loader operator in one of the quarries around here who is just a mean miserable pr!ck, and I'm sure he'd be capable of doing that.

Big Dave,

ouch..sucks to be that driver.did you not say that becomes "hand unload".

Our Shop has tried to eliminate "driver error" tarping.all of our "Flipper gates" are gone........(they instantly broke tarps if not uncovered before dumping)........Now we are seeing torn newer tarps or motors burning out........cause..thinking the thing is a parachute and moving the tarp on or off at road speeds:flyswat[1]:........Electric motors LOVE[smilie=love togeth: that added strain......

Kranky1, the gentleman that runs our pit gives you 2 chances at tarps, not "finding the bucket" or "open" gates..If you get to #3 he will give you a few days off from the "pit"....He is one of the "Brothers" that own the company:whistling:....

Here's the kicker!

Yesterday, since I was off doing projects on my own, I was kinda 'out of the loop' as to what everyone else was doing. I just assumed that the rest of the drivers were loading out of one of SMC's quarries.

They weren't. :wow:

They were hauling ag lime that we had stockpiled in Winnebago MN last month. The drivers were loading their own trailers. :yikes:

For a driver to trash his own tarp by himself is some funny sh*t! :wow:

Talk about having a BRAIN FART!!!

Especially since this particular driver retired from MNDOT as a loader operator/tandem dump driver and currently runs our loader for us if we're doing 'short hauls'. :yikes:
