Having a problem today with this auto shift transmission. Won't shift past 5th gear either in automatic or manual (hold) mode. Will shift with no problem from a stop up to 5th gear.

Truck computer is giving an active fault code, it says "Trans Range High Act Open 130s 035 05.

We have tried disconnecting battery cable for at least 15 mins to reset computer, no luck. Hubby climbed up under truck to see if could see obvious loose or frayed wiring, etc. also took apart shifter box inside cab and looked at wiring, no look. Started messing up last night and we were able to reset it by shutting off truck and restarting it but no such luck now.

Any suggestions other than find a book of matches? Thats what Im ready for about now.

Of course no shops can work on this POS except Freightliner, 110 mi away in Albuquerque.

That particular transmission, like a manual-shift, has an air-operated solenoid that will shift it into high range. They are located on the top of the transmission where the shift tower normally is. Check to see if a connector came apart in that area.

Hubby climbed under the truck earlier today and unplugged/replugged everything he could find on top and the side of the transmission.

The truck owner called Freightliner with the fault code and they said it could be a loose wire but if it is we cant find it.

I dont have anything to translate that code but it does say in almost plain English something about Trans Range High Act Open and thats what its not doing, shifting into high range so sounds like it may be something with that regulator you told us about.

I had the same type of problem a couple weeks ago.

Fault codes said, "High resistance", indicating a possible bad high coolant temp sensor.

Turned out to be the wiring harness for that particular problem.

Hope they get ya 'up & running' in short order.

Made it to Albuquerque to Freigtliner and they should be able to at least diagnose the problem tomorrow, may be able to fix it too if mechanic can get to it.

Will let you know what they find.

Checked into motel but no booze this time, changed my mind after taking time to reconsider my last party/headache. :D

Shop says they finally have our truck fixed. Turned out to be a bad range solenoid, must be that solenoid CC was telling us to check the connecton on?
