An agreement between the Ontario Trucking Association and New York Motor Truck Association (NYMTA) enables OTA member carriers to participate in New York trucking association’s money saving agreement on road tolls! Read on for complete details.

The New York State Motor Truck Association (NYSMTA) has had an agreement with the New York State Thruway Authority for some time, in which members of the NYSMTA have been able to obtain a discount on the tolls paid to the Thruway Authority. NYSMTA has offered to make this program available to OTA member companies, without having to become members of the NYSMTA. Save money and enjoy easier record keeping through this program!

The program has three features:

* Toll savings (between 5% and 15% depending on usage)
* Improved record keeping
* Post-pay convenience

To participate in the program, an OTA member must sign a Participation Agreement with the NYSMTA. The carrier must register for a post-pay account with the Thruway Authority, through the NYSMTA. The carrier will be required to post a bond with the NYSMTA equal to 3 months toll charges. The bond is payable to the NYSMTA which accepts full responsibility for payment. (The NYSMTA can obtain a bond at a cost of $8.00 per $1,000, if a carrier so wishes.) The carrier must pay the Thruway account within 20 days of receiving the invoice; failure to do this will result in the carrier losing the discount, and failure to pay within 31 days will result in the seizure of the bond.

The billing can be done using a company number, not transponder number. The invoice will provide clear mileage for tax reporting purposes. The billing can be provided in either paper format, e-mail, or by computer disk.

OTA members can also set up a prepaid EZ Pass account that can be used on other toll roads, bridges and tunnels with EZ Pass. Even if a carrier already has an EZ Pass charge account with the Thruway Authority, it can save more under this program.

Participants in the program will receive a discount, which will range between 5% and 15%, depending on the usage of the Thruway.

To apply for participation, please contact Yvonne Macaulay at (416) 249-7401 ext. 235 or Yvonne.macaulay@ontruck.org
