View Full Version : Not my problem

I pulled a vehicle over today for 53 in a 35. No big deal as I issue a ticket and be on my way.

Here is what she tells me.
Me: License and registration please. You know why I pulled you over? (that gets an admission to guilt alot of the times, and my microphone to my MDT catches it.)
Her: Yes I was speeding, I'm going to a funeral, I have to be there in 30 minutes. It is in Archdale.(she looks at her clock and says at 4 pm, the time was 3:15 and Archdale isn't but maybe 15 minutes away)
(the guy riding shotgun is in a cut off t-shirt mind you)
Me: Standby here a minute I will be back with you

--check her record on the MDT(computer) comes back with 8 speeding tickets, mostly 10-15 over, and a obtaining property by false pretenses in 2000
I write her a ticket. as I re-approach the car she says

Her: I'm a Guilford County EMT

Me: Really, I didn't know they hired people with a criminal record

Her: Now I am gonna lose my job with this ticket, or they will suspend me.

Me: Sorry to hear that, but I'm not risking my job for your mistake, and personally don't care if they suspend you. Your driving habits show that maybe a lesson needs to be learned. I'm sorry that it has to come to this, but I wouldn't be doing my job if I didn't cite you. Your court date is **/**/2005 at such and so courthouse. Please put your seatbelt on and please slow down.

That is what it is like sometimes. I don't have much of a choice but to cite her. I wouldn't be doing my job, but it is tough sometimes. Anyone that chooses to go 15 or more over the limit near me is almost guaranteed to hold a ticket. I will accept some excuses, but not many. Some think it is me being an azz, but in reality it isn't. I'm doing a job that I swore to do and if it hurts some peoples feelings then I feel for ya, but don't try to put me in a situation where I could be screwed by not doing my job.

No, you're not being an ass. You're doing the job that you swore an oath to uphold.

Besides, if you had let her 'get away with it', she'd be mocking you at the dance club tonight. :p

Besides, that far over the limit DESERVES a ticket! :D

You did your job, and I might add with professionalism.

Especially with the mic on for others to hear how you handled it.
15 over is only good if there is an emergency and you would have found that out right away.

8 speeding tickets, mostly 10-15 over, How does she still have a license.? At the very least it should be a limited one for -to and from work only.

She is an accident waiting to happen.

You did good Tim. I applaud you for your professionalism in how you handled it.

It would be much cheaper for her to invest in a Valentine One or Escort Passport 8500. She's an idiot. She has that track record of driving fast and getting caught. I would think that eventually she would either modify her behavior or take steps to detect her nemesis.

The radars we use have a standby mode that do not trip a detector until activated. Where I was sitting you can't see me until you are right up on me. I hit front (it is a front and rear antenna radar unit) and see your speed and lock it. You don't have time to slow down enough by the time I hit the radar and lock it. (you might get a mile or 2 slower, but not usually)

I think radar detectors are good only for those that run the highways in that they will trip when a Cop is running someone else and you are in the area, but other than that they are useless. I can have my radar on(standby) and you wouldn't know I was there until I hit the front radar. Then I have visually assumed your speed and am ready to quickly lock it and by that time I got ya.

Like I said, I don't even give you the time of day unless you are at least 15 over.

Oh, so that's what that button does?

We don't lock it, ever, just observe it.

Some people have no clue. And they have no idea how dangerous it is going so far over the speed limit. I admit I usually drive 5-10 miles tops over the speed limit but very rarely over that.
Its just not worth my life to go faster then that. And most of the time I have one of my kids in the car.
I have a question do ya'll ever stop people for tailgaiting? or for not using their turn signals?
Both of those bug me. The turn signal is a big problem, people will cut in the other lane no warning what so ever then you have to break to stop from hitting the idiot.
I have drilled in my oldest son's head about using his turn signal and how to drive around big trucks.
I hope some of it has sunk in.
:p
Ya'll be safe out there and watch out for Smokey.......lol!

You may have even saved someones life by stopping her...she probably won't learn her lesson till she loses her license..her problem. The one time I received a speeding ticked back in 1991 I remember the judge saying in court that if you offer a defense that you weren't going the speed on the citation but only 1-5 miles over you were still speeding. When my turn came up I just pleaded guilty and walked away with a 55 dollar fine...lesson learned.
