Maybe you can get your boss to buy you one of these:

605 HP! The only bad thing is that it's a Volvo engine.

I'm sure it would be great in the hands of a
good experienced driver such as you or I, but put the wrong driver in the seat with that much HP, and I'm sure the drivetrain could be wrecked real quick.

Kranky1,

NH just got REAL strict on Bridge formula for "lowbedders".......the word is ,we land a "new " bid and our short nose Peterbilt will be replaced....My "Vote" a Titan, the driver wants my "head":bravo:...And with the way our new Granite/Volvos have been acting( 2 went down for speed sensors this week and with automatics..that means they will not run)...I would not be surprised if the "boss" just re-invents our 3 R models.......

The "Big HP" is why I had to switch trucks, the 427 with the Allison will act like a vette empty( plus get 3.5-4 mpg's) and instead of "de-nutting" it..they "Asked" if I would take it....only thing that sucks is I can not get the factory "upgrades" until the OEM parts fail.......;new fan with dash switch and the newer turbo package....

S

p.s.Think back to when Dodge made Big trucks, then look at that Titan....put wing fenders on it and WOW....
Yes,I'm that dam old....

The Dodges didn't have a 2 piece windshield, but other than that, now that you mention it, there is a similarity.

Will the Mack/V*lv* people "upgrade" your granite to a "manual" transmission now that the auto is giving you grief?

Let me explain .......the newer Mack/Vols have had the problems ,405 motors......my office is an '05..still a Mack BUT like everything else these days sh&t breaks and the new parts get upgraded...my old '05( the 8LL) has the new fan, turbo and top end parts BUT it is a 400,my 427 has just 145,000 and only thing that has broke is the serp belt...

Kranky1,i hate to say it but i LOVE my Allison...when i bitched it was "Numb' the "Mack Dr." gave it new parameters ( set it up to my driving habits).powa went up,pulling powa too( YES) and mpg's are up....and he told me "when" the turbo gets upgraded i will be even happier...

Everyone is going Allison, even the paving contractors with their flow-boy tractors BUT only qualified drivers are assigned to them....

Bikerboy, the best thing about Allisons is their driveability.......lock it in 1st to walk through the slimiest site...hit economy out on the big road while in cruise mode or preselect when coming into heavy traffic or your exit and it will amaze you....or you can drive it like an idiot and get stuck, get 3.5-4 mpg's and burn brakes off every 40-50 thousand miles:36_1_24[1]:

Kranky1,

After 2 days in this new "Office" I might say NO to my boss purchasing any Mack.....Yesterdays adventures ;the lock out in neautral for 1/2 hour was GREAT......then the "code throwing" at quiting time was awesome......today was quiet once "bulldog" status let me start the truck..WOW......
Kick in the a$$.....Mack knows about all these little "oops" but is still charging diagnosis and labor for their failing parts.........wtf....Two largest paving companies went back to the "Dog" but with this @#$%^ they are replacing old trucks with KW's and Pete's....

I will put "eyes" on a Titan once they come north of Mass..........but right now the only radical news up here is the "Lonestar" and Wal Marts Peterbilt 386 purchase....local DC is quickly losing its "Freightshakers".......

Snoope,

The Bulldog issues everyone seems to be having lately are a dam shame.

As most everyone around here knows, I'm one of the most "dyed in the wool" Mack Truck fans in history, that's why it saddens me to see this sh*t happening.

Hopefully Mack can get the quality issues under control, but with V*lv* at the helm, who knows?

Kranky1,

I officially dislike this new Granite.........after fueling this afternoon, the transmission locked in Numb again......after talking to the shop for 15 plus minutes, running through the "Codes" we got the Allison to talk "Mack"..although it (the truck screen) said there were no "active faults".....

Hopefully my "Office" will be out by Friday afternoon BUT we are waiting on parts.....Why would a Mack dealer carry oiler hub covers that are stock on every 18k and 20k front end ???

The company I work for has mostly Volvo's and Mack's (along with 2 International 9200i's).

Of these, there's 3 '06 Volvo's (VN430's? :noclue: ), 3 '06 Mack's (CHN613), 2 older ('99's?) Mack's (CH613's, day cabs), the 2 International's and one really old Mack (CH613...remember the white one?), that do road construction........pulling belly dumps, lowboys or 'flowboys' (what they call 'my' new trailer).

The rest of the trucks we have are Volvo's (660's? :noclue: ), but they are all OTR trucks.

My Volvo has the least number of miles on the clock (293K miles). The 'construction trucks' (with the exception of the 'old trucks' and my truck), have around 370-400K miles on them. The rest of them (OTR trucks), have between 450-600K miles. Oh, I should mention that our OTR trucks are '04 model year.

This past winter, my boss has spent more on repairs for 'funky electrical issues' (on the Volvo's), and motor issues (on the newer Mack's), than I would've thought possible with trucks 'this new'.

Case in point;
Ever hear of a $4000+ repair bill for battery cables? :jawdrop: Yep, one of our trucks was down for 4 days (and the driver in a motel), because of a f***ed up battery cable! :wtf: The Volvo shop (don't know which one, but Bill was 'on the road' at the time), 'couldn't find the problem', so they started 'throwing parts at it' until they got it squared away. :wtf:

Bossman paid the bill (just to get the truck back on the road), but then went after Volvo for 'compensation' (don't know if he got paid or not).

Here's what happened.........

Companies that make wiring harnesses & cable assemblies use big spools of wire/cable. Anyways, when a big spool 'runs out', they just splice (basically braiding it in like a woman braids her hair), in a 'new end' off of another spool. :wtf:

Instead of scrapping the 'short end' (you know.....when the cable runs out, instead of scrapping it), and starting new (like they should), the manufacturer cut corners and 'braided' them together. That's where that particular battery cable went bad. :wow:

Now, that being said, our local Volvo/Mack shop seems to have a good handle on these problems and get our trucks squared awaOh, all 3 'newer' Mack's (construction trucks), had issues with the 'top end' of the motors. Evidently, these motors had some kind of problem with the valve train. :wtf:y pretty quickly (I would honestly hope so if they want my boss to buy more trucks from them in the future).

The local Mack/Volvo shop is part of the Nuss Group (http://www.nussgrp.com/Truck/locations.htm). Oh, it also helps that my boss is REALLY good friends with the owner of this conglomerate. :D

I hope that your employers can get things squared away with Volvo/Mack before things get 'too ugly'.

'Bad blood' is hard to heal.

Your Mack dealer doesn't stock them?

Go aftermarket.

C/R & Stemco both make hub covers for just about every truck & trailer application.

We have a local "Jobber' we can and do get some parts from BUT the issue is Mack is trying to be lean and in stupid ways....our shop usually has them in stock BUT this last run the red seals dried up......Q/C....

Big Dave, that "Short wire" trick is what happened to one of our NEW Granites...if the driver adjusted her steering at all,it would tug at the plug, eventually wearing out the metal tabs inside......Factory finally posted a Bulletin after we repaired ( paid $$ for) ours...Our dealer was the "Dealer of the year" a few back BUT times they are a changing...

Bad thing is our Pete's are "ailing" too, 2 clutch fans in one week and another jake/cam/lifter problem on a 550 motor ( 3rd time, newest tractor)

The "Yellow" toys are making the "tool boxes" parts changers and chasing tails......no a/c in a 4 month old Komatsu dozer, took 2 days chasing wires to find it "sparking" part time.....skipped the wire clamp because of a long ( wrong) bolt from the factory.....oops....excavators losing power 1/2 way through pipe lays due to "brains" arguing with hydraulic pump sensors......the list goes on...............

WTF happened to giving a dam and quaility control???

And WTF ever happened to good old mechanical simplicity when none of this computerized sh*t was necessary and things actually worked, and were easy to diagnose if they didn't.
