In the first pic, the crane boom is not far enough onto the top deck for proper support.

As to why there are no straps in the middle, it would be useless to do so since there is nothing solid to support the weight or help secure the crane boom.

What is wrong with this picture ?

The guy had way too much room left on the top deck.....He should have put a partial on there. :yikes:

Andy, the reason the crane boom is not tied in the middle is that there is nothing under it to keep the boom from flexing. Crane booms are engineered and should only be tied where they are directly supported underneath.

Also, I'm not a fan of 2" straps (pic #1) no weight rating and the hand winches allow you to get things barely tight enough.

Just out of curiousity...what did the boom weigh? I'm guessing it was 40' long, so were 4 x 4" straps sufficient being as it wasn't against a bulkhead?

Is it the chain that appears to be going over the section of boom?

BTW Andy...nice load bridges/supports! :p

not to state the obvious, but it has slipped off the upper deck, or at least one side has (the side with out the strap preventing it from slidding back)...

Personally, I think HBT had the right answer!......lol
Sorry Andy but I just had a fight with my daughter and finally got my puter back. Not a real fight just had to trick her into getting up so I could see what has been going on in here.
You fellas did a good job of figgering out what was wrong.

TNDRIVER,

That boom section is 40 feet long ...you need 2 tiedowns for the first 10 feet and 1 for each additional 10 feet or part thereof. You should have a total of 5.

GET ANOTHER STRAP ON THERE !!!!!
