The ongoing saga of those trailer tandems that we removed from my friend's storage trailers moved one step closer to it's conclusion today.

I loaded the forklift on a lowboy this morning, went to Scott's place, loaded the tandems on the trailer, squeezed the forklift back on the trailer too, and hauled the whole works back to the shop where I work.

My boss wanted the 16 Unimount rims that were on the tandems, then once we yanked the rims & tires, the boss noticed that all the brakes & drums on both sets of tandems were brand new (4707 Q plus shoes & 3600 drums.

Boss said "Let's save all those brake parts, and those hubs are the same as we have on some of our trailers, so let's save those too".

The stripping began, and by this afternoon, there were just "skeletons" left, and all the good sh*t was residing in my work bay at the shop.

Tandems and forklift on the lowboy at the shop:

Tandem # 1 sans tire & rims:

Salvaged parts in the shop (I'll put all this stuff in "stock" on Monday:

Note to RockJockey:

I removed the mudflaps from these units and put them in safe storage. Send mailing address and I will ship said mudflaps to you.:rofl2[1]:

Good deal that your boss got a bunch of 'new parts' on the cheap.

Off topic but how do you like that Trail King and what is it rated for? I see it is a detachable neck and is similar to a 8 tire Murray. Is it mechanical or hyrdaulic brake down and do you have low boy ramps on the back of your tractor to back under it with out having to use a hydraulic neck or a forklift? Also do you ever load from the back without having to breakdown? Just curious because I am looking for another low boy trailer.

Those Trail Kings are the cat's a$$ in my opinion. Very easy to unhook & hook.

The one in the above pics is our "baby" lowboy, a 35 ton. We also have two 60 ton triaxle Trail King lowboys. All are "non ground bearing" type.

They're fully hydraulic, powered off a wet kit on the tractor.

Don't need any "ramps" on the tractor, just a solid crossmember across the rear of the frame for the "stinger" to rest on.

Although the 35 ton has a short beavertail, the boss only permits loading by detaching and going on from the front. Side loading or rear loading would result in a trip to the unemployment office.

Here's a couple pics of one of the 60 ton trailers unhooked:

Some of the rims came back from the sandblast/powdercoat shop today.

These rims are Accuride "Pro Steel" 8.25 x 22.5.

With the silver powdercoat on them, they're a dead ringer for Alcoa aluminum rims.

We'll be able to mix & match these with the aluminum rims in the fleet (using a plastic "anti corrosion spacer" of course).
