Today I have to give RAZBERRIES TO SCHNEIDER, which has a location/terminal in this area. Last year we tried to get them involved in the Highway Interdependence Day Celebration, and they wouldn't even return our phone calls. However, one of their drivers attended last year and loved it. So he got involved with the planning committee for this year's event. He asked Schneider to sponsor a game ($50.00) and prizes, and I wrote a letter to them making a formal request. The request was approved. Last month, the driver working with us left Schneider for a different company.

Today I received a phone call from a Schneider employee asking me if they could have a recruiting booth. Although this is not a recruiting event, I gave them the price of a booth for vendors. The employee and I then talked about Schneider's committment to sponsor a game. He hung up. Two minutes later he called back to tell me that Schneider would NOT BE PARTICIPATING because they were having a rodeo on that day.

Hmmm - let's review.

They were perfectly willing to come out and have a free booth to recruit, but they weren't willing to come out and participate in the TRUE SPIRIT of the Celebration.

Then I learned that their local rodeo was originally scheduled for July, but they changed the date so that it coincided with the Highway Interdependence Day.

So razberries to Schneider; I only wish I knew how to type the razberry sound. :bop:

Sorry to say, but most big companies are like this. All they want is fresh meat in the seat. They couldn't care less about any celebrations unless maybe it's their 75th anniversary of opening their doors. :wtf:

while I cannot give a link...
I am also a member at a Schneider driver forum... I joined over there to get insight into the company I was considering hiring onto... Anyways, I decided to foward the comments by Truckerdoc, and gauge their responses...

Interesting stuff being said over there... It is amazing to me, how people cannot think this celebration or the purpose of Promoting Truck Drivers in a positive light is a good thing... Are they fearfull father Schneider is watching them? If they say something against the grain, they'd be fired, miles cut back?

I am in awe at how brainwashed these fellows seem to be - and am reconsidering SNI as my future employment... Why would I want to be in a place like that, where the driver is not valued at all... Besides maybe my post has stirred the pot too much anyways - and won't be hired?

I'm not afraid of the pumpkin, my livelly hood doesn't depend on them yet... They have the chance to do what is right and become a beautiful chariot of promotion or wither away at the vine from internal decay...

Whats in the head of a Pumpkin Head if... "Schneider is in the business of hauling freight, not educating the public about how act around a big truck."

Atco, now that you have posted your comments, I will give my thoughts.

I read some of the comments in PumpkinLand, and like you, I sat in amazement at some of the reactions - especially of one particular person who must be in management.

The Highway Interdependence Day is a good thing all the way round. It's free; no one makes money. In fact, it costs us all money, but we believe in our mission. The day is about knowledge, communication, laughter and bringing people together to make highways better for everyone. No one should have any disputes with it. It's a beautiful day of cooperation.

So what's with the strong reactions in Pumpkin Land?

Schneider reneged on its committment. If you work for the so-called largest company in the industry and it renegs on a $50.00 committment when that committment lets them promote themselves with their merchandise, you have to have some sort of doubts about the company. More importantly, you may have concerns deep down about what that company might do to you one day.

However, those doubts can be a little too disconcerting and anxiety-provoking for some people, so they use defense mechanisms (people have different names for this reaction) to reduce their anxiety.

The person who exhibited the least insight in the Pumpkin-Land Forum showed massive use of the defense mechanisms: denial, rationalization and reaction formation. It's a very constricted way to live.

We, on the other hand, are going to have a great time on September 10th. It will be a day of joy and laughter and no anxiety.
