Aid goes to truckers reducing emissions
RALEIGH — North Carolina truckers can apply for a piece of $517,500 in federal stimulus funds as rebates for equipment they buy that reduces emissions from heavy-duty diesel engines, the state says.
Purchases of new long-haul trucks are eligible. So are auxiliary power units, which are electric or low-emission engines used to power heaters, air conditioners and other devices in a truck's cab without idling the vehicle's engine.
