DENNIS VEST was in pursuit of a car-jack suspect when the stolen vehicle crashed. The suspect fled the scene but Sgt. Vest was just focused on the badly smoking car. He sprayed the engine with his fire extinquis...her and then cut the straps to retrieve the baby, who suffered head injuries. The baby is in stable condition. The suspect was later captured. These are the decisions that face law enforcement officers every day. He must focus, assess and act within a split-second. Job well done Sgt. Vest !!See More

A quick-thinking city police sergeant freed an injured infant from a smoking, crashed automobile that had been carjacked from the boy's father Saturday night, police said yesterday.
