I am trying to get a line of brokers rounded up so that I can try to keep the wheels spinning off my truck. Currently I am working for Transgroup and Landstar which is a good start but I want more options. I filled out a packet for Epes Logistics and was told sorry we can't use you for another 3-6 months and I am sending out a packet back to C.H. Robinson after I get them on my insurance.

Is there anyone else that you guys would recommend hooking up with that may be able to throw me a bone once in awhile so that I can keep it moving? I run solo or as a team depending on what loads I get out of my home terminal when I roll out. Right now I am a team set up.

If any of you guys on this section of the board are brokers and are interested in finding out more about my company or would like to work with us please shoot me a PM and we can figure things out.

Thanks,
Robert Sloan

PM Mcgee--- I think her daughter is still chasing loads. I used their service before I sold out and they were very good.

Be very careful of C H Robinson. They ain't called Cheap and Heavy for nothin'
They also like to include the FSC in the rate.

Try to form direct customer relationships if you can- by cutting out the middleman (broker) it offers you the opportunity to get a higher rate on loads while the shipper gets to pay a little less, creating a win-win situation for all.

I run under my own authority now and very seldom use brokers unless they're desperate and will get a good enough rate for me to be motivated.

I'm working on that LL. Problem is at the moment all of my customers are in the dirt business and as a result with construction being slow there is not enough work to keep me busy so I end up brokering it out and keep 7% on what is billed.

TQL out of Milford,OH. ALL brokers will have cheap loads if there is an oversupply of trucks in an area. The trick is to squeeze a high rate out of a broker/shipper when they are badly in need of a truck. Some shippers are stubborn and have cheaper rates than a broker and won't budge on their rate if the earth fell off the hemisphere. BTW,I used to be a broker and an independent O/O and I have worked with numerous brokers and some shippers. Most brokers won't send out a setup packet unless you actually want to book a load. Even Ch roberrson will pay up a high rate if you are smart enough to negotiate it out of them when they are hurting for trucks. Of all the brokers I used TQL seemed to agree to a higher rate much quicker while others were still trying to hold out for a cheaper truck.

C.H. Robinson is the "Wal-Mart" of brokers. They are quickly takeing over the industry. They are HUGE, and have MANY connections.

As in the trucking industry itself......there are always gonna be the "little guys" that are barely making it.....but still hanging in there. And for the most part, much friendlier, and more organized and experienced.

But I belive C.H. Robinson is always gonna be the biggest.....and as the biggest have more operating revenue.....and with higher revenues come more and more connections.

The one thing about CHRW, is they can get you out of any area, and into any area, on any given day-----the rates may not be as good as you want them....but as Jack5 said, they ARE negotionable.
I also belive, that you may want to "pick & choose" the loads you want to negotiate with them.....because if you do it every time, they will red flag you and not work with you any more.

I have hauled some REALLY good paying loads for them.....and I have hauled those .90 cpm "get me the hell outta here" loads for them too.

My point is: They are the biggest. And as such, like Wal-Mart hated by lots. But; unfortunately, as the biggest.....you WILL eventually deal with them from time to time. So why would you rule them out? https://www.chrwtrucks.com/default.aspx

I've hauled some very good paying loads for C.H. Robinson on a few occasions. Same with Schneider too. I've hauled a few decent-paing loads for Landstar agents but they also have a lot of low-paying crap loads.
