Jessie was put down about 4:30 Monday afternoon. http://www.mausercentral.com/forum/images/smiles/icon_cry.gif

The wife called me before she went to bed. Gunner (my 1 1/2 year old Black Lab), wanders around the house looking for her and whining. He knows something ain't right. :(

She's on the left in the pic. In the month since this pic was taken, Jessie had pretty much quit eating and drinking. The last few days, we had to carry her in and out of the house so she could go to the bathroom. The Doc said there was nothing medically wrong with her, just 'old age'. She was 14-15 years old.

When she walked, she 'pranced' like those show horses do. She also hated getting her feet wet if it had rained. She seemed to get a kick out of us calling her 'Miss Prissy'. She was a darn good watch dog. Out on the farm, she'd let us know if anyone was coming down the road or if any animals entered the yard.

Our older dog is heading the same way. He has arthritis and now his eyesight is going. There are days where I wonder if I should just take him in, but then he has his good days.

Thankfully, the past couple of weeks, he's been doing real well. I hope this continues. After having him for so many years, it would be hard to be without him.

Our younger dog is very attached to him and would end up wandering the house if he wasn't around. We can't even seperate them when going outside without the one inside having a fit. They play together, eat together, sleep together, etc. For some reason, I have a feeling Toto would have it worse if we had to put Muggs to sleep. I just dread the day we have to do it, as I know its most likely in the very near future.

Here's a recent picture of them. (Its sent from my phone so not real big)
Aren't they adorable?

Sorry to hear you had put your dog down. With every dog there comes a time
that if you really love or even care for your dog you have to let them go.
Keeping an old dog alive when they are sick and reaching the end of the road
just because you love and will miss them is not doing the dog any favors.

I have to admire people who will put a dog down to prevent any more suffering
in spite of there own feeling of loss.

Sorry to hear this Dave.
Losing such a great friend has got to be rough on you.

I try not to think about the day I lose the Pooh dog..........but the thought bothers me constantly.

Ten years of having this wet nosed little friend hanging out with me through every hour of the day and night will be difficult when it ends.

My only peace will come from knowing that without me she would have died long ago as she begged on the streets and that I and several girlfriends could not have given her more love than she got.

There are no words that will make the hurt any easier to bear. I'm so sorry that you've lost your best friend, God needed a new angel and Jessie was his choice.
