I delivered a load of copper tubing (1100 lb coils in boxes, on pallets), to this place (http://www.mesabi.com/) in Yankton SD today.
While talking with the guy running the fork lift, I asked if they made radiators for Cat (the color of some of the frames gave that away ;) ).
Anyways, he said, "Yeah, along with those other companies whose logos are on the wall over there (as he points to the other wall). Liebherr, Komatsu, Cat, and about 4-5 others......... He also went on to say that they'll make radiators for anything a customer wants. From what I gathered, this plant only makes radiators.
There was a guy using a electric overhead 2 ton hoist moving around a radiator core. It was at least 6' x 6' square.
I said, "Damn, that's gotta be the largest radiator I've ever seen".
The fork lift dude says, "Oh that? That's one of the smaller ones we make". :wow:
I looked at him in disbelief and he said, "Follow me".
We walked over to another area of the building and there was a radiator being made that was 13' x 10' 'square'. :jawdrop: The thing was HUGE!
Overall, I was impressed by the cleanliness, the workers themselves, the products they make and the parts I saw for the radiators. The 'lower tanks' are made of 2" x 6" x 5/16" wall, rectangular tube steel.
Pretty cool operation.
