Officer Killed

A local 7 year vetran officer was killed last night while responding to a call. The early reports state that he and his K-9 were responding to a burglary call and a vehicle pulled out in front of him. He swerved to miss the vehicle and struck a guard rail. The impact caused his SUV to roll killing both him and the dog. The other vehicle was never located. This was the first officer killed in the line of duty for that city agency.

You guys still working patrol please be careful responding to calls for service, you never know when the bad one will happen.

Our policy here is no more than 15 over in town. Even though we have major throughfares throughout town I seem to always take the back roads. Not as much traffic if any and I know the streets well.

That is a sad thing that happened as we always think that if we were to die in the line of duty it would be from a gun, not an accident.

Like truckdrivers we have to deal with the same idiots you all do, but the ones we have drive slower. It is amazing how many times you see folks wait until the last moment to get into a turn lane.

What Department was it that this happened too?

The agency was New Smyrna Beach police department. From the pictures he was really moving and did not have on any emergency equipment like lights and siren.
