Count the trucks sitting along side the highway (yes, there's a dry van passing by). The paving crew foreman 'forgot' to call the asphalt plant and have them hold us up there. Instead, all 26 trucks were loaded and sent out. I was 'first' in line when they decided to pull the paving machine back to the start point to pave the other lane. I sat alongside the highway for 2 hours! :wow:

Good thing it was warm outside, or the loads would have started to jam up in the trailers.

Your 'tax dollars' at work................

Actually, that is our tax dollars at work, but not the way you think. This is a prime example why road jobs are bid, so when a contractor has his head up his ass, as in Dave's example above, the contractor eats the loss, not the taxpayer.

As far as sitting with a load of asphalt, around here there is a minimum temp the asphalt must be or it gets rejected, which is checked before the truck dumps. Obviously, this time of year a load can sit quite a while and still be hot enough.
