Most city Police Departments have a dog catcher assigned to them.
I will tell you know that is an unsung hero there. The one we got is awesome when he is there. He doesn't b!atch or complain, and I wish we had more like him.
Most Police Officers are authorized to shoot a dog that is coming at you. Not this guy, with his trusty catch pole(string attached to a pole to grab an animal by the neck) he pushes on.
To all the Animal Control Officers, glad you're there. I wouldn't want your job and glad you don't make it my job.

I agree. Ours is great too. My partner cut himself jumping a fence last summer and the ACO helped transport him to the Vet's(who happens to be my Daughter), showing compassion and great care. She also seems to have a knack of calming a injured or sick animal whenever I have had the chance to work with her. :D

Hmmm.......the loop on a pole thing they use didn't work on them cows that were roaming around my backyard in Killeen TX when I caught some cows walking past my sliding glass door one night. :wow:
It was pretty funny to watch the officers rounding up cattle in the middle of the night. :D :p

In the City of Virginia Beach, Animal Control is out of control and are nothing more than storm troopers for the Virginia Beach SPCA-who doesen't even do law enforcement, but you like to.
In a recent case, animal control officers raided the home of a woman who does animal rescue, no prior contact with the lady and on the word of one complaint from a person heretofore unknown the them, pushed in the door on a sunday and seized all the animals that were there.
There were no sick animals that weren't under a vet's care with medication on premisis and one cat contracted conjuntivitis (pink eye) while in the animal control shelter that the vet from the Virginia Beach SPCA refused to treat.
Why you ask?
According to her sworn testimony on the witness stand, she didn't treat the animals eye because the "cat growled at me".
That's animal neglect-a crime in the Commonwealth of Virginia but animal control and this Vet somehow get a pass.
After conducting interviews with several of the people who have had previous contact with the "lead" nazi of this bunch, they all say the same thing, she's a mean little you-know-what who likes to stomp on people.
After this "raid", an internal investigation of animal control was launched by internal affairs and the results were only made public a YEAR after the investigation started.
It was the sorriest whitewash I have ever seen.
The accused was DENIED her right to a trial by jury by a corrupt judical system and was decided before ever being called to order.
After demonstrating their inability to produce some 36 pictures taken as evidence, apparently they were "lost", but the truth is, they were deleted. the Judge took this lady's animals from her and awarded them to animal control, who promptly handed them over to the Virginia Beach SPCA, transporting them there at taxpayer expense and keeping all the money for themselves.
I now know what a "show-trial" really is.
I received a notice for jury duty and have ignored it, if they couldn't give the accused in this case a jury of her peers, why should I waste my time?
It's probably best because I'd give someone I knew was guilty a walk just to even the score.
Animal Control in my hometown have done nothing more than the bidding of a control freak at our local SPCA and I have no use for either of them.
