http://www.truckstopusa.com/forums/images/icons/icon1.png ICE ROAD TRUCKING ? GET OUTTA HERE !! serious though !
Well like I usually say : not for nuthin'.....BUT.....I retired from Casa Trucking in NJ after
20 years on the job....great pay but no retirement....collecting Social Security now.......

.....spending most nights down on the street trading war stories and lies with some of

the other OLD guys ( I'm 65 .... still think I'm 30 )........and it's starting to drive me

....NUTS.....Checked out the Ice Road Truckers on TV....figuire out that they're only

showing everyone the screwup maneuvers....But it got my attention.....Got plenty of

miles under me driving in the northern states during the snow months....I'm thinking

about giving it a try.......what the hell....three to four months out of the year and the

other eight months or so back down here at the beach....POINT IS....I don't know

a dam thing about the Canadian or Alaskan trucking operations....not sure where to

begin.....If there's ANYONE on here that can give me some headsup on this........I

WOULD DAM SURE APPRECIATE IT !!!.....Just too young to retire and maybe too old

to learn a new trick !.........BTW...Casa trucking is cutting it's NJ operations down to

6 drivers.....from 33.....I didn't make the cut.....Jim !:asking::asking::Trucker:

Since Ice Road (fakes) Truckers showed up on the TV. Every starry eyed green-horn in the United States has tried to get a job there.
There aren’t know openings my friend.
Why?
Because real truckers who have been there for years are there.
Sorry but the real Ice Road Truckers aren’t like those nitwits you see putting on a show on the TV.

In the mid 70's when the Alyeska Pipeline was built, I had 22 trucks hauling to Deadhorse (Dalton Highway). WE had 318,'s 335's, 350's etc. And we sure as hell never had all the problems that they would like to show in a TV dramatization.

We hauled up to 12 feet wide and the road was a lot worse than it is today.

How about calling or looking on the web for that company that Lisa works for... Carlye or something like that. Maybe you could apply with them and get hired.

But from what I see you have to be trained as a rookie and be able to run behind a trainer until they see you are a team player unlike that guy they are about to let go oh whats his name. Good luck if that's what you want to do.

He's already done that. There is a thread on the RT that he started also and it was mentioned there first off. That company said it is not accepting applications for its "Ice Road" program.

It doesn't really surprise me. Since that show came out they probably receive tons of resumes every year and when you see a new driver on the show they are probably there due to strings pulled by the production company.

This years requirements appear to have been one driver with big tits, and the other a know it all super trucker. Lol

I understand from a Mate that watched the supposed new season that Hugh (the wannabe know-it-all) couldn't shift a 10 speed, yet he could a 18 speed.
What kind of super trucker can't shift a less speed tranny??

You ever drive a Super 10? Those are a pain to learn.

If it were a regular 10 speed, then yes he should be able to handle it. An 18 is just a glorified 9 speed.

I agree with you Mark. That Super-10 speed is a RFPITA if you are used to traditional transmissions. Drove one once and said screw this because I kept grabbing the wrong gear out of force of habit. I'd rather have a 5x4 over one of those.

The super ten does suck but come on haven't any of you kids ever drove a truck with a straight 5 speed and a 2 speed electric shift rear-end shifts the same way

SUPER TEN WAS EASIER THAN STANDARD TEN either in Eaton-Fuller or Meritor.
I PREFERRED the Super 10 to the standard ten because one needed SHIFT LESS!!
NEVER HAD A PROBLEM and ALWAYS KNEW WHAT GEAR I WAS IN!!
I'll guess the SUPER TEN was smarter than y'all, as if electronics and gears have emotions.

I was introduced to (in '06) and PREFERRED a 13 to a 10 as it was MORE FUN!!

Now I drive a autoshift (since '07) with a clutch and would rather be in a manual shift.

NEVER drove a Mack Twin Stick although I still want to, and never drove a straight 5 with a 2 speed electric shift, not that I recall.
-------------
Ice road trucking ain't anything I would ever do as WE have enough ICE here in the lower 48, so WHY GO TO THE YUKON TO DIE!?!!
You'll get a marker in the lower 48 when you slide off the road or the incident will CREATE a marker as well your demise being posted in a ACCIDENT forum and/or similar forum for posterity.

Hasta la Vista baby!!

I have driven trucks with Eaton, Spicer, and Mack standard 10 speeds. I didn't like any of them. First gear is too fast, tenth gear is too slow, and too many gears in between.

The super 10 in my KW had the gears spaced out much better. I bought it with 350,000 miles on and put 1 million more miles on it.

Although I like any of the trannies I have listed below, if I had to pick one over the other, it would be;
1 - RTLO XXX13A or XXX18A, depending on what situations I would be encountering
2 - RTLOC XXX9A-T2 (with the auto shift disconnected)
3 - RTLO XXX10B
