County sends officers
The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office sent a convoy of law officers and support personnel to Mississippi on Friday to assist with law-enforcement duties in the flood-ravaged area.

The 25-vehicle convoy includes about 100 deputy sheriffs and posse members. They are taking all-terrain vehicles, patrol vehicles, an airboat, pontoon boats, diving equipment and a helicopter. A semi-tractor and refrigerated trailer is carrying food supplies for the group.

The contingent includes medics, search and rescue personnel, lake patrol deputies, a SWAT team and others.

"We're going to save lives," said Sheriff's Sgt. Tony Cruz, 36.

All organised by their sheriff who is in London right now, and has been for a week. Damn fine work.

While I think it is a good idea, who is covering the county they live in?

If it is anything like the military I would think that the ones going were "volunteered" and had to go. Who is picking up the slack in Maricopa County?

It is great if the ones left behind are in full support, but if it is anything like most jobs the ones staying back may not agree with it.

Isn't he the Sheriff that has the inmates out in tents?

I wish there is more that I could do, but isn't that why we have the National Guard? Oh yea, they are serving in the war. Poor timing I guess, but commend the Sheriff in doing what he can.

I would think they still have enough left to keep their town safe.
Its great to see so much support to help out fellow American's.
We spoke to my nephew and a friend of his stayed behind for some reason and he was trying to get to safety after the hurricane and he said he saw dead bodies floating in the water.
I can't even imagine walking around and seeing dead bodies just floating in the water.
Very sad.
