I know most LEO's work some strange hrs. Our union contract is up for renewal next month and the county wants us to go back to the 4 on 2 off 8hr 3 platoon schedule while most of us want to stay with the current 4 on 4off 12hr 2 platoon (same as our firefighters) schedule. Just curious as to type of schedule the other LEOs here work. Thanks and "Lets be carefull out there"

Usually get a 4 day weekend every 4th or 5th weekend, the days in between float a little with court, special assignments, vacations and empty slots, etc. When we have 13 people, we each pull a midnight shift of 7 nights starting 10pm Thursday night and ends the following Thursday at 6am followed by a 4 day weekend so that one returns to work either daylight or evening shift Tuesday. If we have 10 men on the schedule, we each pull that week every 10 weeks, etc ....

Red is days off, I usually work 8 hour shifts but often get extended for emergencies, reconstructions, long training assighnments, etc.

This is a bit off topic but...
Are you guys aware of the APCO forum?

Its open to everyone.
To post, you'll need to register a user name etc.

You can network with agencies and people from all over the country.
Topics range from admin & procedure to radio comms etc.

The info is shared freely although sensitive q&a's would be handled by email.

Just thought I'd drop a headsup.

www.apcointl.org/ Main page

www.apco911.org/theexchange/index.cgi? newsgroup page

APCO is an international org that offers training & accreditation for various LE agency positions.

As an example, it is thru these people that you now have a standard for radio systems allowing outside area responders an ability to communicate in nearly any area they go into.

This is why you've most likely heard the term P25 radio.

It's not all in place around the country yet because the standard has only recently been adopted and manufacturers are slowly gearing up to produce for it. Motorola & MA/COM are the first. Kenwood just introduced their version. Other's will as well.

our patrol works 12 hour shifts beginning on monday work 2, off 2, work 3 off 3. This gives you a 3 day weekend every other weekend.

The patrol people love it.
