View Full Version : Tip: When you are done fueling

After you are done fueling your truck it is a common practice and courtesy to pull forward so the next truck in line can start to fuel while you are inside taking care of the bill.
At many truckstops the fuel lanes are designed for this, but not at all of them. Before pulling forward make sure that doing so will not block any entrance or exit lanes and that you are able to pull forward far enough that a truck behind you can fuel up.
In the last week alone I have been blocked in twice at small fuel stops because drivers pulled forward when there was no room for it and have had to wait at another because the driver only pulled forward enough to to clear about 75% of his trailer from the island.
As with 110% of everything else in trucking, paying attention to what you are doing and what is going on around you will make things go a lot safer and a lot smoother.

Yes it is common courtesy to pull forward, but just to pay you bill, not to shop, not to eat, not to shower, etc... If all they did was pay the bill and leave you shouldn't get blocked for more than a minute...It is the guy that is to lazy to park and go back in that gums up the works.

Also do not pee in the fuel island grates. This is not a nice thing to do. I would rather wiat for you to park in the fuel bay. Run in take a leak and come out and start your fueling process.

As gross as it sounds, I witnessed a Canadian driver do just that(pee) on the fuel island. I could tell he was Canadian as he had this little..........................nevermind

Ignore them and park wherever you desire.
Use the windshield squeege to wash the fairings and panels of your truck. Empty your "honey bucket" into the drain. Throw your trash toward the trash can. Dump your full ashtrays on the ground. Smoke while you fuel.
Don't pull forward after you fuel, stay parked at the fuel island. Go inside and make your phone calls. Use the restroom. Order food at the restaurant. Be sexually suggestive towards the high-school girl(s) working at the cash register(s).
Complain about the high prices of fuel, cigarettes, and everything else you buy. Curse loudly so others can hear.
Drive 20+mph across the CAT scale. Back into a parking spot and throw your old tire casings, pallets, and slipsheets on the ground.
Drink excessively. Talk trash on the CB. Patronize lot lizards and hustlers.
Just keep telling yourself "Anyone that doesn't act like this isn't a real truck driver!"

Some advise I was once given, might have been from Hoss.
Keep an orange pylon cone in the truck with you. When you pull into the fuel island, pull all the way up. Then place the said cone behind your trailer. You can then go back to the truck and grab everything you need to go in and take a shower.
I love sarcasm............

That wasn't me that gave you that advice! :wow:
I do remember telling you that I had seen someone do that once or twice, but I NEVER advised you to follow suit.
