I was at the truck show in Anahiem last Thursday and went by W/S booth and picked up their flyer ...it states that you can train with them once you go through one of their approved school ...okay understand that ...but what I don't get is ...it says one can be on the road in 10 days with NO trainer needed you are sent out on your own solo ...and at full driver wages.
Anyone go through this 10 day course ...what does it involve and does it work? Thier web site is not very informative at all.
Thanks,
Randy

Thier web site is not very informative at all.
You got that right. Their web site SUCKS!
I tried to find some info on it for you but came up with a big goose egg.
Best bet is to call them and discuss it.........if their personality is anything like their web site, I wouldn't even consider them.
That's just me though.

I sure hope the 10 day thing means for those drivers who are already licensed and experienced. They would have an orientation period.
If not, I shall start avoiding Watkins-Shepard trucks.

Hey WD and Max,
I agree ...I don't get why a company in this day and age has to have a web site like W/S ...it does suck to say the least. I was hoping to talk to the recruiter while at the show but he had a few other folks he was talking to.
Max, the training I believe is for beginner drivers thats what got my attention ...no time with a trainer just 10 days at Orentation then they assign you a truck and out you go!

I remember reading about Watkins-Shephard doing that, and it's kind of scary to think about! :yikes:
I'm surprised that compan can even acquire & secure any liability insurance operating that way!

The Missoulian ran an article about 2 years ago regarding W/S's school/training. If you Google the following search terms (including the quotes), you'll get a link or two to the article:
"road scholars" watkins
The article is certainly more informative than W/S's website.
Peace.

Hey Ozric,
Thanks for the information ..seems to me WS could put this info into thier web site ...come to think of it ...any info into that site would be a plus  . I wonder if they do the same set up out here in CA. ...good excuse to swing by thier Modesto Terminal sometime and ask .
Still not to sure 10 days is enough time to learn enough to be comfortable out on my own ...then again not sure I would feel that way with 100 day's :D .
Thanks again,
