I am wondering about chucking the plastic very much pain in the @ss Vee Boards and going with the home made board and nylon webbing load protectors. Please let me know what you like and why you think one or the other is better or if a combination of the two is the way to go.
Thanks, LindaLou

You didn't say as to why you dislike the plastic boards...tough to answer you properly. Why do you think the one's fabricated from a 2x4 will do better?

1. They have ridges that catch in each other, they don't slide over each other.

2. They are heavy.

3. They take up a lot of room. I have the short ones bungeed on my catwalk, reduced access there, and the long ones are on top of the crossmembers under the trailer, I have to get on my butt under the trailer to fetch them. I have tried to shove them in the angled support cross members on the outside of the framerails on the outside of the trailer but I just fight them to get them in and out. They don't fit anywhere else I can figure out.

4. They don't want to stay in place all of the time.

5. It would be hard to carry all that I might need on any particular load.

Hope to hear more commentary on this. Thanx!

This can be a pain when setting up but the ridges help keep the straps from sliding and allow the v's to be more of a solid unit when lapped.

2. They are heavy.
2x4's or 1x6 fence pickets like I've got are extra weight as well. If light weight is your concern switching won't save you anything.

I keep mine ander the trailer, between the frame rails, on top of the x-members, held on by 2 1in straps. This is not very convenient I'll admit but it is space not otherwise used and I don't have to move them unless I'm going to use them. As far as getting on your butt to get them, I don't that's 1 of the reasons I carry knee pads. "Angled support x-members" (Knee braces? Between tlr frame and deck?) These may hold enough v's on on side for one side of the load but.....

4. They don't want to stay in place all of the time.
WHY NOT? Load uneven? wood v's may not solve this may even create another problem. Wood breaks, plastic bends. Either one you use if the load is that uneven, you may consider shimming between the v's and the load.

5. It would be hard to carry all that I might need on any particular load.
same goes with wood especially if you use 2x4.

Hope this helps

I use steel. They are heavy, but last forever and hold entire edge even when load is un-even.

They are about 3 and a half feet long, and each flat from the 'L' edge is about 8 inches wide.

They stack together nicely and fit in my side box on my trailer.

I wouldn't even consider anything else.

I like steel too but light weight is a big concern.
